    LSBA Turkey call build along....

Lets make a Turkey pot call.

I start out with a 4x4x1 piece of bodark.

I drill my sound holes. Then cut off the corners to make turning round alittle easier.

Next I mount my blank on a screw chuck.

Now just start turning it round.

after getting her round. I turn to the face of the call this will be the inside of the pot. I just start hollowing it out. I cut a small "shelf" for the playing board to sit on.

Hard to see here, I'm checking the glass soundboard for the right fit.

Here I start to work on the Pedestal for the toneboard to sit on.

Here I'm trueing up the back side this get the bottom of my call the right thickness.

Now I go back and start cutting the out side of the call to get my final shape.

Next I sand and sand and sand some more. I start with 220 grit and work my way to 800 grit. Inside and out.

NOw I turn the call around to work on the botton of the call. As you can see when I trued up the bottom it left quite a bit of wood that has to go.

        Then more sanding.

Here we are with a finshed pot.

Now I head to the house, this is where I do the finsh work. Stand by.

I like watching projects like this, cause I am not good at wood working.

This call is going to the LSBA this weekend so I wanted to do something Special. Instead of the traditional round toneboard. I did some cutting on a piece of slate toneboard and this is what came of it.

              A Texas toneboard.

I use plumers goop to glue it down on the pedestal. I then clap it for a few hours to dry.

Now I get ready to glue down the glass soundboard. I use a little acid to etch the glass.

I run a small bead of glue around the "shelf" .

This also gets a clamp over night to set.

And now for the finshed call.

I wasnt sure how this call would sound with the toneboard cut u this way, but I must say...WOW.. this thing really sings. Someone at the LSBA banquet will be getting a super call.

                Hope ya'll enjoy.

                Jeff

                    Awesome!

In my post-turkey season depression, I have been kicking around the idea of trying to make a call
