You can get good Mexican food anywhere. Not easy to find good Italian food.

If you haven’t ever been to the River Walk, you should go. It’s crowded, touristy, and over-priced, but everyone should experience it at least once. Casa Rio for Mexican (TexMex) food, Schiloh’s (sic?) is supposedly the oldest deli in Texas in continuous existence. They are known for their ham and split pea soup as well as their homemade root beer. Both are good.

Given my preference, though, I would much rather spend time at the Pearl Brewery District. The former brewery has been developed into a “live, work, eat, and shop” district where everything is “walkable.” They have a great farmer’s market there every Saturday, but if you’re really into food like I am, you’ll love the many innovative restaurants that can be found there.

Some years ago, the very forward thinking folks in the City recognized what a gem the had in the Culinary Institute of America and decided to subsidize graduating CIA chefs who wanted to open restaurants in the Pearl Brewery District…and everybody benefits. Again, if you’re really into food.

Drury inn on the river walk.
          Kickback drinks and food.
          Free breakfast.
River walk access on the first floor.

It’s the old bank that was renovated.

            The Riverwalk

I grew up in SA and still like visiting the Riverwalk. I would say you could spend 2 days down there and see pretty much everything. As mentioned a few posts back...The Pearl district is a neat area you could spend a few hours grabbing beers and something to eat.

Google the museums in San Antonio. There are some good ones. I liked the Institute of Texas Cultures. Very interesting.

I haven’t been there in years but it’s one of my favorites, too.

And while I generally have nothing but disdain for the erudition of art museums, the Witte Museum, a museum housing one of the most diverse collections of TEXAS art, is another one I often recommend.

Not many people know this but San Antonio is the epicenter of early Texas art and, because of this, is still prolific in terms of producing new talent.

Just did a search for a recipe for Shrimp Paesano. It looks delicious! Almost like shrimp and a Hollandaise-y sauce. There’s nothing better than a silky egg yolk-based sauce with a hit of lemon. Think I’ll give it a try.

What would it have been plated or served with?

You can get a room with a sofa, and a balcony overlooking the Riverwalk. They give free beer during happy hour in afternoon, as well as free breakfast and senior discount. Walk across the street to the Aztec Theater, downstairs to Riverwalk. Check the reviews.

                        That is exactly right !

Stay at the Menger old part, Enjoy the pool area, the Menger Bar. Visit the Alamo a little or not. Do the Ghost tour and maybe a carriage ride. Eat breakfast at Shilo’s. Visit the Buckhorn Saloon and leave. Plenty of other restaurants to choose from depending on your liking.

If you stay two nights do the light show on the San Fernando Cathedral.

I have tailored this setup for most of my visitors and they enjoy it so much more than the crappy river boats and cheap sidewalk drinks.

I Just pretend its the old days and block out the rest of the crap.

And when it comes to artsy fartsy CRAP, for me there is only two kinds of art, Blue Bonnet paintings and Colt Single Actions. I have no appreciation for any other renowned artist or artwork in history.

I've become fond of the Omni La Mansión del Rio on the Riverwalk.

Our last trip besides hanging out on the riverwalk we hit a few places off of the Riverwalk.

                          Pearl Districk
                          El Mercao
                          Japanese Tea Garden

Wanted to see the light show at the San Fernando Cathedral but ran out of time.

Around the corner from the hotel is Bohanan's Prime Steak and Seafood. Really great resturant.

Generally over a bed of spaghetti noodles. It is a great dish

Breakfast at Mi Tierra that is at El Mercado, shop, lunch from the taco trucks. Spend the evening and eat dinner on the Riverwalk.... leave the next morning to go elsewhere. Go to Fredericksburg but go through Gruene eat at the Gristmill and go to the Gruene General Store on your way
That's what I'd do... I have no idea what you and your better half might do
