    Barbados

Anyone been to Barbados? Heading there with the wife and two teenage boys. Any must do's or anything to stay away from?

I stopped by during a cruise probably 15 years ago when I was a child. All I remember was how clean towns were - all the buildings white washed. It was beautiful.

My wife and I went for our honeymoon. Every Friday (I believe thats the correct day) they have a big cookout that is mainly seafood from all the fresh catches at their little marina area. If you enjoy seeing and experiencing the more local side of things I would go check it out. Aside from that, we did a snorkel cruise excursion and enjoyed that as well. Beautiful place.

A local cab/shuttle driver did mention to me while we were down there that they reserve camouflage for their military. They didn't make a huge deal out of my camo backpack but if I was going back I would prob leave that at home just out of respect for their cultural views.

Edit: here's a link to Oistin's, the little town where they do the cookout.
Why is the Oistins Fish Fry in Barbados so popular? Great food, music and atmosphere come together for a must do Barbados experience! Don't miss the Oistins Fish Fry!

Was there last December. Can't say anything stood out honestly. Like most Caribbean Islands pretty laid back with beautiful views.

Been a few times. Rent a car and explore the island.
          Mount Gay Rum factory
          Flower Garden Caves
Windward side of the island is magical looking
Cuz's fish shack is world famous. Get the cutter with cheese
Lots of sea turtles anywhere you swim.
Swim by the fort by the Hiltons, lots of cannons in the water.
Oistens Fish Fry every Friday night. Macaroni pie is lights out.

          Hope this helps.

It’s been a while but the beaches were all nice. Lots of cool beach bars/restaurants to hang out at during the day. There weren’t too many locals harassing tourists trying to get them to buy stuff but I was there 10 years ago. That could have changed. We tried all different kinds of food and it was all ok. Their national fish is the flying fish because I think they killed everything else gill net fishing. You’ll see flying fish on every menu. It’s decent. I imagine it tastes a lot like mullet.

Stop in and have some drinks at the one of the shacks. They’ll be color coded for what brand of alcohol they sell. We had more fun going from shack to shack and eating at the marina than we did at the resorts.

Been a while but we stayed on the opposite side of the island where the cruise ships docked. Pretty cool. Ate a lot of flying fish sandwiches on the beach. That’s what they said anyway. Immerse in local culture was fun.
