    tibial plateau fracture experience

Anyone had experience with this. Almost two weeks ago I was trying to get a baby calf to nurse when momma kicked me in the outside of my left knee. I hit the ground and rolled around in cow crap. I thought acl was probably gone. I finished with the calf and then went inside to ice and hope it would quit hurting. I eventually went to ER where xray supposedly was clean. The MRI the next day however showed a non displaced tibial plateau fracture. A week ago I had two screws put in it via key hole surgery to stabilize it. My ortho surgeon said he would feel more comfortable getting me back on my feet faster with the extra stabilization. I am 5 more weeks from weight bearing at this point. We are hauling the boat to Marathon florida on July 29th for two weeks of snorkeling, fishing, and sandbars. That is my goal on getting to point at least can run the boat, swim etc. Does anyone have experience with this injury and recovery? I think alot of people get this from car accidents and skiing accidents ...mine was just a ****** off momma cow LOL.

GHA there are a lot of factors that go into what kind of recovery you will have. Age and weight being the 2 biggest. I had a scaffold accident in 2017 at the age of 60. Mine was bad resulting in 12 inches of Titanium screwed to the fracture to repair it and a rebuild of of separated knee cap. The knee cap was rebuilt with cadaver bone( crack head probably). I spent about 6 weeks in a wheel chair before I could go to crutches for another month or 2.

I healed well enough I guess but walked awkwardly after that and has resulted in some hip issues that will have to be dealt with eventually. My advice would be pay special attention to physical therapy requirements and don’t push your self too early. Good luck sir.

Age and weight will play a big factor in recovery time.

I've been working with orthopedics and trauma for 15 years. In my opinion, eight weeks of recovery should be plenty for low impact activities.
