    Crossbow Target

Need recommendations on a target for a crossbow I just bought from another TBHer. Looking online at reviews of different ones it looks like most don’t recommend shooting a broad head into it. What do y’all use after a hunt and you have to shoot your crossbow to uncock it?

I use the cocking rope afyer removing the bolt and slowly let it out.

I have an "uncocking" bolt that I shoot in the ground for one crossbow. The other will reverse crank to let down the string. Carbon Express makes a X-bow de-cocking bolt with a large knob on the end to keep it from sticking in the ground to far. It's heavier than a normal arrow, too, to slow it down. You can get them at Academy, Walmart, or online. About $15-$19. I just put it in the quiver. And shoot it in the ground when I'm done, so I don't have to walk back with a cocked bow. Here's an example:

As for targets, there are a few that will work with broad heads. But just like vertical bows and broad heads, they will eventually get eaten up. I have a Block Vault target for one x-bow. And a SpyderWeb for another (rated for 500fps). Targets are rated for speed. So buy according to your x-bow's speed. Lubing the arrow shaft with a dry bar of soap will help it to keep from sticking in the foam targets. The faster the arrow, the harder they are to pull out due to the friction from arrow speed that heats the foam on entry. Then makes it really hard to pull out, sometimes losing the shaft insert and arrow head.

Not my video. Nor am I associated with it in any way.

We keep a small discharge target in the truck/boat that's designed for this, slap an arrow with FP on it and shoot. For public if I'm way in on foot I don't like to carry the xbow out cocked so I pack an Allen decocking head. It's light and small, just switch it out with a BH on one of the arrows and shoot it at an angle into the dirt.

I shoot broadheads into my normal broadhead target, the black dice looking block I forgot what it's called.

If your crossbow is not designed to be decocked this is horrible advice. They make a small decocking target for field points only.

If you are offended by my response sorry your feelings got hurt but decocking a crossbow that is not designed to be decocked is a horrible idea.

I like that decocking bolt. I will check it out. I have always used the cocking rope but don't really like holding it with one hand and then the other on the trigger.

Most crossbow hunters just shoot their purse when they get done.......

Lol jk In my experience, it also depends on what speed crossbow you have. My R10 kills targets and bolts alike I had a slower one that a Morrell yellow jacket discharge bag was plenty capable and small enough to carry everywhere

I use my target behind my shop after I get home. It is like this target in the link below. I may buy this discharge target so I can unload it at the lease gate this year though.

My dad and his buddy use the decocking bolt like Texas Grown linked. We always walk back to the trailer or take the golf cart and you never know what you might see, so we keep the bows cocked. When we get back we load the decocking bolt and fire into the dirt.

I too am looking for a target. I bought the Xpedition bow that BlessedVeteran just posted about. I haven’t shot it yet though, have everything but a target. Figured at $250 it was time I stopped borrowing a crossbow and got my own.

Black Hole Crossbow offers crossbow hunters an economical, long lasting target that offers easy bolt removal and is suitable for both field points and broadheads, field point only on the wrapped sides, multiple aiming points on all 4 sides extend target life, light weight for portability, take anywhere.

This is the one I’m looking to get.
