    New technology in the hood.

A couple of weeks ago I noticed the shopping carts at HEB had been outfitted with some sort of “ shoe” on the right rear wheel. Today I see a little sign on the bottom of the entrance doors stating the carts may lock up randomly. The carts are not to be taken off site. I look and sure enough the left front will is an all plastic looking qizmo with I assume a electronic braking device. Genius! I’m not sure what the purpose of the shoe over the right rear wheel is.

Good call. I can’t see how those cost more than the 100,000 + carts they loose a year to homeless people

It's to stop shoplifters. If you go through a checkout line it "unlocks it". If you try to go through the doors with a load of groceries without going through a checkout line, it locks up the brakes.

HEB has been doing this for several years already.

Walmart needs to install them in Pleasanton, I saw thieves pushing loaded carts out the door on three different occasions when visiting down there. I said something to a manager and they said they cannot stop them. Unbelievable.
