I use this daily. Small light weight, bright, and the battery last a long time. Cheaper than $100 but for the amount of use he’ll get out of it it’ll be more valuable to him then most $100 tools

And lifetime warranty! Same one I love. Except I have the 2 AAA battery one. Been using it for years. Truth of the matter. This is often held with your teeth.... never borrow this light from a friend. Lol

They will have a tool list that is the std recommended stuff. (wrenches/ratchets/sockets)
Think "on the outer edges" of that std stuff.

Multi-meter, torque wrench, allen or torx sockets, toolbox racks and organizers, lights (magnetic work, head, sm. pen/pocket size flashlight), gloves.

              Charlie,

Is this what you are talking about? (sorry, flip-phone pics suck)

The only way I can find to ID 'em is the number on the ratchet and sockets.

Google says... "3/8" drive Max Access ratchet"
              https://www.sears.com/craftsman-3-8i...p-00929308000P

That is EXACTLY the set I have! I searched Amazon using "pass thru socket sets" and it looks like a few others make 'em but didn't see Craftsman... I like the case because it keeps everything in its own slot... one side for 3/8 and one side for 1/4 Left side is all SAE, right side all metric.
They're thin walled 6 point sockets and will fit in pretty tight spaces since they're only about half as deep as a normal socket. If it's a nut, it will just stick through the socket, so no need for deep sockets.

He’ll need one of these one day and probably won’t have it yet.
