    Big Spring area info?

My son just signed to play baseball at Howard College. There didn't appear to be much to do in Big Spring when we were on his recruiting trip.

What is there to do in and around that area? I have researched much yet. But we will be spending time out there and need some things to do when we aren't at his games. Hiking, bike rides, fishing, etc. All good. We are open to anything.

Def could use some restaurant recommendations. And brewery/winery/distilleries, if they are out there

Definitely stay here! It is my favorite hotel in West Texas. Has an awesome old school feel with modern amenities. Bar/restaurant is great and the rooms are very nice.

Nice! My wife will like this place. As long as the bar is good, I'm good

I was on the Howard College Rodeo Team. There is not much to do. They have a nice little golf course and there is a community fishing lake that has some decent fishing. Howard College does (or did) have a great student center and they hosted alot of events for the kids. Because there is little to do all the athletic teams really support each other. The Mens and Womens Basketball teams had the biggest cheer section with the rodeo team/baseball soft ball etc. All supported one anther which was cool

Settles is a great hotel. Their food used to be better but has gone downhill. Still better than most places in Big Spring.

Spanish Inn and Alberto’s are good spots for Mexican food.

Woodshack burritos for breakfast takeout is also great.

Lock your truck whenever you’re away from it.

I've had family live there all 39 years of my life. Visited numerous times and still looking for anything to do...prairie dog town near the prison was about as exciting as it gets.

Big spring is pretty dumpy and run down there isn’t much of anything

I agree. Hotel Settles is nice and that's where I stay when I'm there for work. But honestly, the best thing about Big Spring is seeing it in the rearview mirror.

Graduated high school there in '74 and Howard College (Howard County Junior College back then) in '76 before I went on to Texas A&M. Much different town back then- the base closed in '75 if I remember correctly. Have gone back for several class reunions- last one was 2019. Really sad to see how far it has gone down. The best part of Big Spring now is that it is only 30 minutes or so to either Midland or Odessa where there is a little more to do.

Living in Nacogdoches now it cracks me up that Howard College in Big Spring plays Angelina College in Lufkin in basketball- not exactly reasonably close to each other.

Please tell me there is at least a decent bar somewhere.

Sounds like we will do a lot of sitting around the firepit watching the sunrise/sunset.

There's a bar at the Settles Hotel. That's pretty much where we all hung out during our reunion.

Went once and hung out with a local for a few days. 3 highlights of the trip were going to a big hill/dip in some back road and hauling *** down it in a truck. Next attraction was some locals only rock on a hill overlooking town, that’s where the teenagers do the nasty. Last but not least was walking around the bases of wind turbines..
