You can spray glyphosate in March or April and burn off the cool season grasses. Even if the coastal is starting to green up a bit it won't hurt it. If he wants to spend some money spray 3oz to the acre of rezilon and a quart of glyphosate in January or February. Itll be beautiful.

Now, Any broadleaf weed killer should work to knock out the weeds. 24d amine, duracor, grazon next, whatever.

I'm spraying 80 acres of coastal tomorrow and fertilizing and weed spraying 35 coastal this weekend.

Get a soil test and the right fert on it. A good coastal stand should choke out a lot of weeds.

I would not use glyphosate unless you are trying to kill jg or something. There are too many other good herb like grazon that can be used any time.

Glyphosate in March will not hurt anything. If you dont care if your first cutting is full of foxtail, barley, rye and wintergrass dont gly. But if you want good clean first cutting coastal gly is good and cheap. Ive done thousands of acres.

Same as a Bermuda lawn. February gly and a pre emergent your Bermuda yard won't have any competition with that other crap and come on strong.

I have cut my fair share of coastal, and glyph has never touched it.

Rezilon is very expensive. First look over $500 for 32 oz.

Shop around, I buy it for 9.27 an ounce. 296 for 32oz. 3oz to the acre. Still high no doubt, but the stuff is amazing. I wish I would've taken pictures. I just looked at a field I sprayed half of in February. He wants to do the whole field next year, very clean and thick coastal compared to not sprayed. Its choked out by cool season grasses.

Treated = 3oz rezilon plus 32oz glyphosate in February

                  1. Treated left untreated right. Can clearly see where boom went.
                  2. Coastal on both sides of fence. Left untreated right treated
                  3. Treated
                  4. Untreated
                  5. Untreated

my only gripe with rezlon is if your a cattle guy it will kill our ryegrass. Which we leave to graze on hay meadows before season. Now i will be spraying it next year on the stuff i dont graze. Its a give and take with it. But it for sure cleans up the fields. Ive always been amazed how well costal will bounce up once you kill its competition. This is especially noticeable on weak grass that has alot of competition.

I hit my coastal back in February for winter weeds and spring flowers with Grazon something or other. I hit it again about two weeks ago with the same and added fertilizer. We had over an inch of rain on it a couple of days after spraying and it is starting to come on with the hotter weather. I think part of the key is getting those winter weeds and flowers sprayed in Feb for us here in central Texas and getting the second dose on in late April.

Yessir you're exactly right. First thing I tell people is you won't have any spring grazing.

You need to spray that combo with Atrazine. Its a Pre emegent. That will keep the seeds etc from germinating. You need to stay on it the first few years. Then after that you can pretty much just go to spraying Atrazine every year as you wont have any weeds and you just keeping those that have spread from starting up again.

Liquid fertlizer can be sprayed later on like May or anytime after that once it gets up a little.
I do not see that Atrazine is approved for hay meadows? I might not be looking at the correct label?
