What kind of snake is this?

Some sort of mamba I suppose now that I'm holding it.
I found him in the front yard. He is about a foot long and real fast.

green garter snake
diet consists of earthworms, slugs, insects, spiders, crickets, etc.....

we always called them grass snakes as a kid, never knew them by anything else
