    Texas lifetime license

I'm thinking of getting the lifetime license but I plan to move out of state. I looked on the TPWD but couldn't find anything that concerned getting a license while a resident and moving out of state. It says they are not available to non-residents but that doesn't answer the question above.

Anyone have any ideas or experience on this? If I have a lifetime license and move out of state, will I still have to pay OS fees?

To get your tags…youd better keep your DL in TX.

That's what i feared. I wasn't sure though since you would still hold the LTL. I guess if you moved back it would be back in effect. I wonder about non-tag activities. If I'm fishing at the coast with lifetime license or hunting squirrels.

      Thanks for the info.

It was my understanding if you bought the lifetime, it was good even if you moved out of state later.
I have the lifetime license but never planning on moving out of state.

This is what I was told when I bought mine.

They just look you up and print your tags. Shouldn't matter if you move out of Texas.

But if you want to be sure then call them. And for extra security e-mail the person you talk to and get a reply in writing.

I think one of the draws/benefits of the lifetime license is. Even if you move out of state ,you still draw resident tags. Just call TPW. Get it from the horse's mouth.

Yep, major benefit if you're planning on moving for sure.

I have my lifetime. And thought about moving at one point just so I could go to Kansas and get a lifetime there. Then moving back here. If you get one here, then move out of state, it's still good even if you come back to visit and/or hunt. It will always be good here in Texas. You do have to renew it each year (or skip years). You can have it mailed to your self via the web, call in and have it mailed. Or just stop and any place that sells licenses and use your Lifetime "debit" Card. If there are any additional endorsements added while you own a Texas lifetime, they are automatically covered by your lifetime. Exceptions are for Sandhill crane and fed stamps. You can still get the sandhill stamp free. Or pay $5 on-line and have it mailed to you just like I do now.

I live in Oklahoma and have a Texas lifetime. It is valid even if you move.

My longtime hunting buddy got a TX lifetime and moved to Kansas. His DL is Kansas and gets it at Academy here in Denton every year. He has dove, turkey and deer hunted with me every year for the last 7 years with multiple GW checks. That's what lifetime means. Buy it with confidence.

Thanks for all the replies. I do plan to call and confirm. Never hurts. But I may do that since I'll probably be coming back now and then. I will still have clients in Texas, assuming they want to put up with me, so I plan to time those visits to personal time. Good way to get your travel deducted...or some of it.

I also thought of moving to the western states for six months each and getting lifetime licenses in all of them. My wife nixed the idea. Women can be so illogical at times.

I wouldn't even call and ask. This is how it works and many (including my daughter) have moved and continue to use their lifetime licenses. Also, unfortunately not a whole lot of states offer lifetime licenses. In fact there was a guy out west (I think AZ) who moved to the state long enough to become a resident, drew a bighorn tag, moved back and after he shot his ram, they threw the book at him.

                            Correct.

I looked at buying my kid one in november. Went to TPWD, explained he was going to school in Florida and in the event he stays there, I was going to make sure he had one. They said perfectly OK if he has one.

Pretty sure there is a member here with a La and Tx lifetime license.

Get it bought and you're good. My wife and I both have them and that is exactly why we bought them. Moved around a lot for the job, but TX is still home. TX DL is irrelevant after purchase. Show up to Walmart or wherever and they'll print your tags. I've also contacted directly and had them send them to me in the mail at my new residence in another state.

Been doing this with two LTL for about 15 years and living in three other states (permanent change of address, DL, etc.) during that time.
