    Pulling boat to Destin, FL?

Headed to Destin in mid June for a week and was planing to hire a guide to fish inshore while there but was also considered pulling my 2021 Tidewater. Anyone pull their boat from Texas to Destin and is it worth it. I am leaning toward not doing so. Not to crazy on having to replace flats and have a hub go out, its a long haul.

We were there in June, a few years back. Way too much boat traffic. We just hired a guide much easier and safer there. Also the drive in Destin is bumper to bumper all day long.. no matter where do you go!

I’ve done it multiple times but we always stayed for a week.We use the boat every day we’re there so it’s a necessity. If it was just a quick trip like 2 or three days I wouldn’t do it.I pulled a buddies boat one time and had a trailer spring break in Lafayette Sunday evening on the way back home.I just happened to have a replacement that I hadn’t put on my trailer yet in my toolbox.I just try and have things in good working order before I make that haul pulling a boat but for us it’s worth it.

Hubs failures are typically preventable with a little maintenance.

Hire a guide and you won`t have to worry about dragging that boat. It`s a vacation, you don`t no worries.

If I ever went back I would definitely drag my boat but more for the offshore fishing. We took a Bay boat out last time we went and it was pretty fun and didn't have to run near as far out as we do here in Texas. Then being able to go to crab Island without having to rent a pontoon would be nice as well.

I've taken my boat several times. Just plan your trip with towing the boat in mind. Of course more stops for fuel. It is definitely worth taking it with you. Fish where you want to, crab island is a blast having your own boat. We fished the back bays and caught trout and redfish, went over to Fort Walton and caught all the black sea bass you could want. Offshore there is a blast. I will always take my boat of there. We stay in a house in Holiday Island that is on a canal, so the boat stays in the water all week.

With all that traffic I would just wade

Hauled ours over there in June 2021. I’d do it again in a heartbeat. We were on it everyday between Crab Is. and going offshore and beachfront fishing. Stayed in a VRBO condo there in the harbor that had a slip so she was in the water the entire time. Had to store the trailer at a yard next to Destin Marina, that worked out fine though. Just depends on how much you think y’all would use it. If only once or twice, I’d probably just charter somebody. Good luck!

Have hauled mine and enjoyed it just make sure place you stay has room and allows it and check out ramps ahead of time public ones on bays are very shallow

Last time I was there I was surprised that some of the boat rentals were someone reasonable

You will spend half the price of a a guided trip on extra fuel puling the boat there and back.

We did it and went through 3 tires and on top of that we had to find storage because of the deed restrictions for the house we rented.
