My college roommate dropped his on his dock on Lake Brownwood. One bounce and it was headed to the bottom. It was January so he put on an old wetsuit and we took a 2x4 and pushed it to the bottom so he could follow it down about where we thought we saw it go in. In the dark, cold, nighttime water, he searched for it without luck. The next morning we stopped in a boat shop in town and asked about divers. Got a guy's card and called him out. He looked for about 30 minutes and then came up with the ring. Apparently, when we put the 2x4 in, we hit the ring and pushed it several inches into the mud on the bottom. The guy found the ring by raking his fingers through the mud. It was unreal that he was able to find it.

Congratulations to you nephew on finding that sucker. Truly a long shot.

      I GOT IT BACK!!!!
Thank you to everyone who commented and shared this post! I have heard about and seen the Aggie Network work for others but I haven’t personally had it work for me until I lost my ring. It has been a truly humbling experience. Thank you again to Robert at Cancun Metal Detecting for finding it and getting it back to me safely.

I just might have to do a celebratory ring dunk for getting it back… We’ll see… [emoji6]

      THANKS AND GIG’EM

      THE RING HAS BEEN FOUND!!!

My new friend Paul at Cancun Metal Detecting has found the ring and secured it around 10:30 am yesterday. We are currently arranging to have it shipped via FedEx to me in Texas.

It was 9 inches deep in the sand when he found it [emoji2962]

Anyways, a big thanks to everyone in this post who commented and shared!!! It helped me find me ring, Paul commented to me that he had people from all over the world reaching out to him on behalf of me and I cannot begin to tell you how cool that is. I’m very humbled by the big show of support! And of course, thank you Paul Devine at Cancun Metal Detecting for finding it!

Calling anyone with a metal detector on the beaches of Cancun. Calling the Texas A&M Aggie Network. I need help. I just lost my Texas A&M University class 2014 Aggie ring in the surf of the beach adjacent to the Secrets playa Mujeres Resort as I was exiting the water. It was flung off just as I was getting a bit of seaweed off my hand walking out of the water.

I will pay $500 USD to anyone who finds it. The approximate coordinates are (21.2659037, -86.8126030) at around 2:15 pm 5/9/2023. The riptide was moving north.

It has my name, William Elmer Downham IV, on the inside of the ring and it looks like this. I have also posted a picture of where the ring was lost relative to the location of the resort Secrets Playa Mujeres in Cancun. "

Sounds like that Aggie network is a lot like the one here on TBH.
Cool story and happy for him. Side note, they were there for a friends wedding and a day or so before the ring incident, he checked "catch a tarpon on the fly" off of his bucket list. He went from a really high spot in life to a sinking low!
      All good now!

That's awesome! Can't imagine the sense of relief he must be having.

I hunt or fish 70% of the weekends throughout the year, and I never wear mine when I'm near water, the one time I did it bit me in the butt.

Was running the marsh in a buddy's skiff near Galveston, we were just scouting for the following morning, had no plans of getting in the water so I had my ring on. We're cruising around and next thing I know we run on top of an oyster reef, throwing me and my buddy out of the boat. I go into the fetal position as soon as I'm flying through the air, land on top of the submerged oyster reef and get cut to shreds. My Aggie Ring gets ripped off my hand as soon as I hit the water. My back looked like I was in a prison fight, so as soon as we got the boat off the reef, we bolted to go clean the wounds. The thought of standing on those razor sharp oysters looking for my ring never crossed my mind. The following weekend Galveston got rocked by a hurricane. I knew that ring was Aaron Hernandez, gone forever.

Fast forward two years, my best friends pulled together behind my back and worked with the Association of Former Students to surprise me with a brand new Aggie Ring on my birthday. The original ring meant alot no doubt, but the replacement ring given to me by my closest friends means way more to me than any other material object I own. I wear it with pride, and get a lump in my throat every time I put it on. It sounds corny and cliche, but some people just don't understand the amount of meaning those little pieces of gold hold for Aggies.

When he gets is back he might want to have it resized so it does not slip off his finger so easily again.
