Best way to cook a turtle?

Got a pretty good sized one today. I've had it battered and fried and boiled in crab boil before. Fried was pretty good, didn't care for the boiled. It didn't have a bad flavor it was just tough as a boot. How do y'all prepare turtle?

No sir, I don't. But I could try. I was hoping you'd chime in. I knew you'd probably be just the guy to ask.

Slow cook the turtle, pull it off the bone and shred for turtle noodle soup.

That reminds me of what I told my buddy after I handled the turtle today. I put a chew in and got a grossed out look on my face I guess. My buddy said "What's wrong with you?" I said "I'm gonna get salmonella probably." He said "You can't get salmonella from turtles. It's chicken you catch that from." I said "It's pond chicken. Same thing." He thought that was pretty funny.

What type of turtle was it, snapper or soft shell? Although both are tough to clean, they are good eating if cooked right. Have had it fried, turtle soup, and sauce piquant. Have also had an excellent soup made from ground meat of the turtle.

This one's a softshell. I've only ever had snappin turtle before.

You can kick the Gumbo up by adding drop dumplins at the end.
                          2 cups flower
                          Pinch of salt and pepper
                          Pinch of Baking Powder
                          1 Tsp dried parsley.
Mix dry ingredients well and whisk in 2 eggs and some milk to make a thick dough. At the end wet your spoon in the gumbo and ladle one spoon full at a time into the liquid. Cover and cook for 10 more minutes and it’s finished.

Anything is edible fried and the right type of sauce. That's what Cajun Folks have told me.
