Grew up in a horse racing family. My dad was offered a handicapping job once upon a time, My uncle and brother both had race horses at Oaklawn. Know a trainer at Lone Star Park, or at least used to, kinda lost touch since most of the racehorse enthusiasts in family died.
We used to frequent Oaklawn, the Fairgrounds, and Louisiana Downs. Never made Churchill.

It's from decades of breeding for speed. Thin leg bones break easier than heavy bones but heavy bones make for slower horses. I saw 3 horses break down in one day at Bandera Downs when it was open.Originally posted by MacDaddy67 View PostComment

There were 7 horses that died. There were also more than 3 days of races. The horses were also training every morning. Elite athletes are more prone to injury, and horse injuries mean death more often than not. These horses are probably the most elite athletes alive. The deaths were due to four breakdowns, a broken neck in the paddock, and two yet-to-be-explained collapses.
