    Cataract Surgery

Anyone have cataract surgery and opt for the Light Adjustable Lenses?

What are the pros and cons from your experience? Worth the extra money?

They are pretty new. I doubt many people out there have them.

I had cataract surgery last Monday I asked about corrective lenses they was 2500.00 or 3500.00 depending on how much correction you wanted. My Dr said not to waste my money.

It depends on how much extra money.

I like the idea of being able to tweak the lens after the surgery without an additional surgery. They can just shine a sliver of light in your eyes and adjust your vision. After cataract surgery two years ago I got 20/20 in one eye and 20/40 in the other. With this technique that might’ve been able to get 20/20 in both eyes. Heck, maybe they could have adjusted it to 20/10.

I am satisfied with my vision compared to what it was pre-surgery. I just passed my eye exam at DPS without corrective lenses with the standard lens. I would not mind paying a little bit more for possibly even better vision, but I wouldn’t pay much more.

Get in touch with Mann Eye, a sponsor on here. Had cataracts done, lens replacement, and a valve put in for glaucoma in my right eye. Absolutely worth every penny. You can finance thru care credit, when I did mine it was 0% interest, always like using others money. Surgery was in Houston, the doc was located in sugar land, did all my follow ups at the woodlands office.

And I drove form DFW to have this done.

The doctor I am talking within really impressed with the LAL. He says it is not unheard of to be able to get you to 20/15 depending on if you have any other issues going on with your eyes.

My wife had catalyst surgery and lens implanted. She had wore thick glasses since she was 3 years old and couldn't see the sea if she was on a cruise liner. She has perfect 20-20 vision in both eyes now. It's been about 6-7 years ago and yes it cost quite a bit but she doesn't have to buy 2 pairs of glasses every year and have paid for themselves plus she's doesn't have to look for her glasses anymore.

That’s what I was talking about. They can adjust it or fine tune it after the surgery. In a way is kind of like getting a non surgery (after the cataract lens is replaced) Lasik type procedure.

                How much extra?

I got my 20/20 20/40 with the standard free lenses so I don’t need glasses and my night vision improved about 1,000%. It has been two years and I’m still amazed sometimes when I go out at night.

But 20/15 would be nice ….

Both the wife and I had cataract surgery last year, the Doc told us the same thing.

How is your vision today? and how is it compared to pre-surgery?
I'm 70 and never even had glasses... Use readers, still see fair out a ways... I'm scheduled for cataract surgery right eye in August, left eye in September... I'm hoping it gets me back to where I've been most of my life... My new (in the meantime) glasses will be here Monday or Tuesday... fancy progressive lenses with that auto-darkening in the sun stuff...

My cataracts got so bad that anything was an improvement but the results were stunning. Not only the cloudiness but the vision correction and from the moment I got up from the table.

I thought I would be nervous having them cut on my eye but I had read and watched enough about it beforehand, that I was kind of excited while doing the pre-surgery prep work. Then I had a hard time waiting two weeks to get the second one done. The moment I walked out from the first surgery, I was ready to turn around and go back in for the second.

                        This for sure^^^
When you've been 'blind' for life and come out of the office being able to see things that you'd been missing your entire life, anyone would be excited.

I just use readers for the phone and paper, IF the light is bad. If I have good light, no problems. I can now read menus in an eatery with no problems! Very happy with my results. I believe it is 20/20 in one eye and 20/30 in the other.

Terry, did you get the fancy special lenses or the standard corrective lenses?

Normal Medcaire will pay for normal lenses, fancy lenses will cost WAY more. My Doc said they are not worth the extra cost.
