Truly not trying to be antagonistic here, just genuinely curious...
I get prepping and survival as a thought experiment... "Do I have the skills, tools, and supplies to make sure my loved ones and I can survive some sort of civilization ending/mass extinction event." But, to what end?
At the risk of sounding totally defeatist, do you really want to live in a world where 90% of the population has died off including a large portion of the people you care about, civilization has broken down, and the standard of living is set back 1000 years to where the life expectancy is about 40 years and stepping on a nail or a common bacteria infection could kill you? What do you hope to gain? Do you want to try to reestablish civilization? Just be one of the last few million to die after your supplies run out? Avoid the rush at the pearly gates?
I totally understand the self preservation instincts, but I guess to me it's a question of quality of life over simply existing.
