    ASF Barrel Buddy

I got on a lease in Hico with my dad this spring. Dad’s 84 and his long time hunting buddy retired from hunting after last season. Dad wanted to keep hunting, but was going to call it quits without his buddy. I decided I’d add another lease so I could hunt some more with the man that got me into the sport.

The guys had a number of feeders out, but all on their last leg. I decided I’d try the ASF barrel buddy. Picked it up from a local feed store and added a barrel I got off of Facebook. I put in a funnel, a battery and a solar panel and a little rattle can paint and she’s ready to head to Hico.

Overall, I’ve got around $300 in this feeder. Hope to set it out this weekend and see how it does. The concept seems good and should keep the coons at bay. I’m wondering how it will do with pigs. Anyone else run one? Any issues?

What are your thoughts on it being easy to knock over. Footprint is awfully small. Stakes?

Stake that sucker down or else it'll be turned into a hog pipe.

Stakes are included. They are about a Ft long. I’m putting it in a pen, so no issues with cows. If I have an issue with the pigs, I was going to put three T post around it and wire it down.

I did want a stand and fill so dad doesn’t have to get on a ladder. Hopefully the pigs play nice!

I have seen One and Done feeders with a leg setup like that get anchored on a sheet of plywood. That way the weight of the animal trying to turn it over kept it from doing so.

Replace the clamp on lid with drop on galvanized to keep condensation down (unless you are going to use it in an extremely dry environment).

                That’s the plan.

I have one at my lease in Hamilton(also bought it at the feed store in Hico). It is pretty solid with the stakes. Coons have not gotten into it an it is right next to Cowhouse Creek with a lot of hog traffic and haven't had any issues with hogs either. I really like it.

A quick update. Set up another barrel buddy and so far, so good.

Good for you to hunt some with your dad. He will really appreciate the time more than you will ever know.

Because of pigs I would do some serious bracing with t posts.
but then it’s hard to move it when the dug out holes appeared under the feeder
I think really short 3-4’ legs staked down would be more steady and easily filled out of the truck or side by side.
                        just my opinion.
