    Oak tree pricing?

Potentially building a new home soon on our property. I want to plant Oaks around the house. I’d like to buy some 15’ or so… I’d that possible and how much to buy a plant?
I’ve never looked into this so not sure on how tall/ big can be transplanted

I’d buy multiple small tress and plant them this fall.
Trees grow fast under ideal conditions

If you get on line, and search, they sell live oaks, which is what I assume you want, in all sizes. But they get expensive, the bigger they are. I was looking for a type of pecan a few years back, found multiple companies that sell trees. There is on I found in east Texas not far from Houston, that sell live oaks, the had trees in the $7,000 to $15,000 range.

But you can buy oaks are a lot smaller, but they are going to take a long time to grow.

Shoot me a PM or still trying to sell some 15 gallon live oaks that or not as big as you want but we’re not going to cost you $600.

I planted some 6’ish live oaks about 14 years ago and they are big enough you could build a tree house in them now !

Just bought an elm and a cypress, both 65 gallon trees that are close to the height you’re looking for. They were $1k a piece planted. I didn’t look at live oaks but would wager they’d be about the same.

I don’t mean to hijack this thread, but I do have some good live oaks that are ready for your planting.

Anvil, do you have anything bigger than 15 gallon?

I just recently(last fall) had a 3" caliper Shumardi Oak planted by the nursery I bought it from. $900 and guaranteed for one year. It's about 15 ft tall and leafed out nicely. Expected to grow 2 feet or more each year with proper watering. No fertilize for the first year until it gets the roots established.
Not sure the gallon size but the root ball was wrapped in burlap and was at least 30" across and tall.

Sounds close to what I just bought size wise and they were 65gal. Curious about the no fertilizer. Fella who sold these suggested putting a Schultz 20-20-20 diluted solution on them once a month.

I have read that the first year should be aimed at root growth and let the tree become established in its new home, then you can put fertilizer to it in the following years, but I am no tree doctor. The nursery usually adds a lot of fertilizer to the saplings in the early stages of life to make it grow faster, I believe.

First off, what type of oak are we talking? Live Oak, Red Oak, Willow oak, water oak and etc.

If about 15' tall you are looking at a 4-6" caliper tree would be my guess (maybe some 3" could be that tall). Transplanting into the ground is probably 1000-2000$ish.

Having gone through oak wilt in my yard i would never again plant only live oak and or red oak.

Also after watching my trees grow it appears to me that the smaller 10 gallon trees will grow much faster than the larger trees.

Plant a few that will block the late evening west sun.
