    Chisholm Trail Roundup

I got a client from Washington state that is all about experiencing Texas stuff since she has watched the movie Vengeance. In the movie they go to an outdoor rodeo in west Texas and she wants to experience something like that. The only larger one I can find that is close to the Austin area is the Chisholm Trail Roundup. The description of the rodeo is pretty vauge, it just says full rodeo which doesnt mean much to me since I am a city boy. I assume it is a legit rodeo but I wanted to see if anyone had gone to this event in the past and what they thought of the rodeo part. In no way are we expecting it to be a full blown PBR event, just want to expereince a good outdoor rodeo. Thanks in advance and yes she has already had Wataburger.

PBR is bull riding only. PRCA is a full rodeo. Bronc riding, bull riding. Calf roping, steer dogging , barrel racing. Maybe steer roping.

I should have used my words better, I am not expecting a full blown highly refined production like a PBR event. She just wants to see what an outdoor rodeo with the items you mentioned in PRCA.

Tejas rodeo in bulverde is pretty commercialized (real show for the city/California folks) but it is a true rodeo with most of the events every time and we’ve won a couple checks there..

Look up CPRA or UPRA rodeos. They are all around Texas and most are in outdoor arenas. They are just about every weekend somewhere

Coleman has a good outdoor rodeo every year.

Chisholm Trail Roundup is the second weekend in June. It is a decent rodeo Friday and Saturday night that includes all of the rodeo events and is in an outdoor arena. I’d suggest arriving at least 30 minutes before the rodeo starts to get a good seat with your back to the sun, if not, you’ll be facing the sun and it’s hot out there. Bring her to town before Smitty’s Market closes at 6 and she can eat some good bbq off of butcher paper before the rodeo. If you do go to Smitty’s, bring cash, because they don’t take credit cards.

Thank you, this is the exact feedback I needed. Funny you say Smitty's, that is where I plan on taking her since it is my favorite of all the Lockhart bbq joints. Thanks for the reminder of cash only, I usually have some on me but that day I probably wouldn't.

Have I got just the thing for you!

This week is the Lee County Sheriffs Posse Rodeo in Giddings, which ends Saturday (tomorrow). It’s a fundraising rodeo benefitting the Lee Co. Sheriff’s Office, admission for adults is $20. It is not a high-production event like most PRCA rodeos can be, but a small county rodeo for the benefit of the community. Nevertheless, it includes all the usual events such as steer wrestling, saddle bronc riding, team roping, etc. Moreover, they will also be featuring MY favorite event…Mutton Bustin,’ a real sit-on-the-edge-of-your-seat event if there ever was one! It is a scary event and you can practically feel the fear you see on the faces of the riders, and scared they should be. It is the one event where most riders are thrown almost as soon as they’re out of the gate, many are actually drug on the ground for the majority of the ride, some will lose their boots and a few will even lose their britches. It is the only event so wild that riders are permitted to hang on with both their hands AND their legs, the animals are so worked up!

I’ll be in town this weekend and had originally intended on going but I think circumstances may overtake us and make it difficult.

Either way,if you go, y’all have fun!

Information about the event is at the link below:

Any ranch rodeo would give her what she is looking for. I much prefer that over the commercialized stuff. Id say she doubles down and drives out to Alpine for the Big Bend Ranch Rodeo in August.
