The “live sale” market is bringing stupid money for Axis and a few other species at the moment..
Could be this. Uncle’s place was covered in them in rock springs 10 years ago. They’re gone now. Easy money for land owners. We live in Boerne now and get flyers in the mailbox all the time from trappers wanting to come get some. Chances are they won’t ever get them all but they’re putting huge dents on them in areas.

Water is the most important thing with axis by far.

Trappers and the freeze got most of ours. Summertime if I was chasing axis I would be near water.

Large pens with cell triggered gates.

This is a axis trap. There are two more entry ways. The larger the trap the longer it takes for the deer to escape. That gives the doors time to drop. The live cam tells you what is inside and you can drop the trap from your cell phone. Resetting is done manually and occasionally whitetail are caught and released. I hate these traps but... Some folks butter their bread this way and earn. It is legal and Axis ARE invasive. Much less of them to hunt now, in my areas anyway.

One thing I have learned about Axis is. They are nomadic. They travel often and far. As mentioned previously. They prefer grass to browse and live water is a big draw. Good luck and shoot straight OP.

Same happened to us in Rocksprings. The ranchers don't want them.

Tough animals to hunt, especially with a bow.
