    Question for the Carpenters

I'm going to rebuild my pond dock this weekend. It has about 10 pilings which I plan to keep. My plan is to rebuild the dock exactly how it is. What is the best way and product to fill the lag bolt holes from the old framing in the pilings.
I may try to lift the dock slightly to get to fresh wood but even if I'm able to do that I'd still like to fill them. TIA.

Drill them and thru bolt them.

No expert, but maybe a dowel rod. If can't find one the size you need get the next size up and drill the hole bigger so the dowel will fit. Apply some waterproofing to the exposed ends. Might even apply it to the dowel rod before driving it in.

The above is assuming you are trying to fill the existing holes on the post.

          This is what I'd do.

You COULD drill them out, fill with a dowel, and drill new holes but in the end, the dowels would rot out and it'd all be for nothing.

Drill thru, use galvanized nuts, bolts and washers.

Backer rod, and high quality silicone.

I'd do a tight through bolt to keep moisture out. The backer rod with silicone is going to trap moisture and rot from the inside out.

Regular dowels will rot. I’m not sure you can get treated dowels without turning them yourself. I’d probably just fill them with expanding foam and call it good.
