Obviously new feeders in area the deer will be curious at first.. Question is.. I setup a gravity feeder 8 days ago to feed protein, how long did it take ya'lls deer to start eating out of it? I threw out some corn to get them use to the feeder being there and that wasn't a problem for them.. It's eating out of the feeder itself they hadn't done. I've done this before on another lease and they ate out of it but don't know how long it took them cause I didn't have a cellular camera to send me pictures/video at the time. TIA

It's not the cheap kind for sure ha. I'm using the same kind as I did at my old lease which was just down the road from this one.

After that, they hit the protein feeder daily before they went after the corn...
just be patient

This time of year is hard too, so that may have something to do with it. There is a lot of green around, so coming to protein or corn may not happen for a little while. Even if it sits for a month, just make sure the spouts are clear of mold and no birds have made a nest and all will be fine.

Originally posted by Mike Fangman View PostDeer are hardly touching my protein right now, everything has greened up, come July and August they will be pounding it again. But yes, mixed corn with it at first, till they take a likin to it.
Be patient with it. They don't need a whole lot of protein right now with the rains and green up...

The deer are eating browse now and there is plenty of it. When it gets dry and leafy plants and forbes are gone....they will hit it and hit it hard. Until then, maybe not. Mine set for couple months before they ate it. Same thing happened when I fed cottonseed. Browse will always take a priority in their diet, at least where I live that has been the case.
