    Is there a trick..

Obviously new feeders in area the deer will be curious at first.. Question is.. I setup a gravity feeder 8 days ago to feed protein, how long did it take ya'lls deer to start eating out of it? I threw out some corn to get them use to the feeder being there and that wasn't a problem for them.. It's eating out of the feeder itself they hadn't done. I've done this before on another lease and they ate out of it but don't know how long it took them cause I didn't have a cellular camera to send me pictures/video at the time. TIA

It may not be your feeder, it may be the protein itself. My deer a picky, I tried some cheap Walmart brand protein one time and the deer wouldn't touch. I swapped it out for a good quality protein and they started eating it immediately.

It's not the cheap kind for sure ha. I'm using the same kind as I did at my old lease which was just down the road from this one.

Mix the protein with the corn.

They'll transition naturally. May take awhile, but they'll figure it out.

Yup always mix the first few bags of protein with corn on the initial introduction. They'll search out the corn and come across the protein and it is good stuff. If its already full, throw some corn up in the downspout.

Thats the plan. Try to take as much protein out as I can to mix corn inside, then add some at the spouts.

Set up a feeder early Feb on a new site. The pigs found it overnight, deer showed up on day 3.

yes sir...and mine still took about a month to hit it.
After that, they hit the protein feeder daily before they went after the corn...

                  just be patient

This time of year is hard too, so that may have something to do with it. There is a lot of green around, so coming to protein or corn may not happen for a little while. Even if it sits for a month, just make sure the spouts are clear of mold and no birds have made a nest and all will be fine.

Deer are hardly touching my protein right now, everything has greened up, come July and August they will be pounding it again. But yes, mixed corn with it at first, till they take a likin to it.

                        and this

Be patient with it. They don't need a whole lot of protein right now with the rains and green up...

Thanks for the tips everyone. I'll be blending some corn with it Friday just to ease my mind and if they still don't start hitting the spouts then I'll play the waiting game cause it is green, green at the lease.

The deer are eating browse now and there is plenty of it. When it gets dry and leafy plants and forbes are gone....they will hit it and hit it hard. Until then, maybe not. Mine set for couple months before they ate it. Same thing happened when I fed cottonseed. Browse will always take a priority in their diet, at least where I live that has been the case.
