His texts etc didn’t help his case at all. Kinda like a wise older lady always said “If you go looking for trouble you’ll probably find it.”

Sounds like there are conflicting stories and maybe more to it, I don’t know. It sounds like a railroad job but I’m trying not to knee jerk based on my disdain for Austin politicians. Constitutionally, Abbot can’t turn him him loose without a recommendation from the Pardon and Parole Board, right?
That is correct that the Pardon and Parole board that ABBOT APPOINTED would need to approve it. I agree with everything you said but he sure didn’t help himself with his social media posts.

The headline should have read “When Stupid Collides”
Stupid or not if the protester pointed a gun at him he should walk.

This case is a really good example why some people need to watch what they say on the internet. Perry regularly made posts online and in texts about shooting looters and protesters, and many of them were racist in nature. While this appears to be a case of self defense, his history of talking about wanting to kill protesters, combined with the fact that he did just that, did not bode well for him in the trial. I see comments on this site all the time that will absolutely be used against someone if they ever end up in a situation where they defend themself.

If I were on the jury, if someone points a gun at you, all bets are off; I don't care what was said.

The texts and social media were not part of the trial. These were only unsealed for the sentencing phase. Which I tend to agree with. Self defense should be judged about the facts of the case when the death occurred.

TeamAmerica- The social media posts were part of the trial. Slides of it are marked for evidence and slides were shown and discussed. As much as it makes no difference in the law it was part of the reaming

Even though testimony and forensics showed he slowed down and stoped the vehicle.

                      micro minded jury

In my opinion, this is what will cook his goose. While I firmly believe his actions on that night were in self defense, what you post on social media will come back to haunt you.

First time I've seen this thread. I chuckled.

Well he got 25 years so we'll see who has the ba!!s to overturn this. If they don't overturn they'll be back reaking havoc on downtown Austin and deservedly so.

Rumor is more APD officers to be indicted. They took it to Gj on the last possible day.
