New land owner looking for cabin / tiny homes

Well, I’m about to close on 200 acres in Kosse. The place has power and water already, and I’m looking for ideas on either a cabin, tiny home, or possibly even budget barndo ideas.

I plan to use it for hunting and recreational purposes. Looking for some suggestions and ideas.

Small home, tiny house or cabin, these pier and beam portable buildings are ready to move in, for people wanting a living space less than 1200 square feet.

A container cabin could be an option. We have one & like it.

I’d look into companies that sell sheds in Waco and College Station and see if they will deliver to you. Finish it out yourself. Heck, if you are feeling froggy and have some buddies… build it yourself and probably save a good chunk of money.

16x28 “elite garden shed” from quality storage buildings is $16k just building it on their website. Couple grand to finish it out, and then throw a mini split in it.

Really depends on what you are trying to do with it. Just you staying there? Need enough room for friends/family to stay? There are some cool tiny house builds off these sheds on YouTube.

Many options out there. Will depend on whats needed. Shipping containers are great because they can be rodent, bug and theft proof but your limited on size. wood storage buildings are cheaper but def not anything a shipping container is. If money allows I would look at a metal building on concrete slab. You can get say 1000-2000 sq ft shell for about $27-30 per sq ft. Then build it out how you like.
I did a large shipping container/metal building combo and can share alot of does and don'ts from my experience. I had a thread going for a while on my Navarro co ranch you can look up. We also built out a metal barn on my Oklahoma thread. Can see some step by step work as I built both.

Appreciate the feedback. Good point of the container homes, they’re definitely interesting and seem like a great option.

Also thought about finishing out one of the sheds too as well as a barndo.

I’ve got a container cabin in Oklahoma that I’d sale, it’s totally furnished. If you are interested 903-439-8612

I have a Tuff shed I live in, close to 12 years now. Some things I learned:

-If you think the size you like is adequate, add 4’ to length/width

-If significant other is in on the planning stage, remind her it’s a tiny home, throw all logic of regular home out the window.

-Split Airs are nice but if they break or have a circuit board issue it may be wise to have a dual climate air conditioner handy. When I was looking to add on I asked for a quote for a third box and the installer of the split air recommended this.

-If you go pre-fab ask what all their criteria is before they build. I wanted mine on pilings for ease of plumbing and a little extra height in case of flood. Tuff shed only works on pilings 18” or lower above grade.

That’s all the ones I can think top my head. Works for me and so far has held up well down here on the coast.

Check out Arched Cabins out of Cypress Tx. Pretty efficient build and can be very nice! You build it yourself

                        Consider the tax implications.
