No sir. Been meaning to shout back at you.

When the lid is open, the plan (drill hole stick rod in) makes perfect sense. However, it appears two things may prevent that.
      1. The lip of the lid. Does it come down low enough to block where I would drill the hole?
      2. On the underside of the lid, I see in your Pic, a bracket/brace that runs the length, one side to the other. Does that not serve to block the rod from reaching the latch?

Have you sprayed insane amounts of penetrating oil into the lock hole? Bend the straw and try to coat the mechanism. Stand it on each end and let gravity help. After that I'd get it hot with a propane torch and put a pipe wrench on the handle. She'll go or something will break. At least you'll know.

It's clear the lock mechanism is locked regardless of the key hope being knicked out. I think forcing it will break the handle and not get me any closer.

If both keyed parts are knocked out there is no way that anything is still locked. Do the latches move at all when you try to open them?

              This is true.

I could send you pics of mine if there’s another view you want to see, but mine is aluminum and likely built a little different.

We have a steel one at deer camp, I wish I’d thought to take pics this weekend.

I’ll send my dad a link to this thread tomorrow and see what he says. He retired from RKI after 40+ years.

But something is rusted in place, and that paddle latch is solid stainless steel…I bet it’s the Rod pivots in the corners.

                DONE!!!

Ended up prying the entire silver insert (handle, key hole, etc) out of the truck box. Then used a cutting wheel to remove anything that could ever again cause it to not open. The silver inserts fit back in, but with no purpose other than covering the hole. I got it done with only one knuckle busted.

Thank you to everyone who helped along the way!

Someday I might be rich, but I'll never be "Trey Powers letting shotgun shells rust in an old toolbox rich"

you would have been better off using Tannerite

I would have just hit it with a zip wheel from the get go.
