Break Into My Truck Toolbox (FOLLOW UP)

Several of you on a previous post gave me suggestions how to break into my truck box. Key is gone.

I think I messed up. I went with a screw driver jammed in and hit with a hammer. The result is that the entire lock popped out (or in) completely, leaving the hole.

It's still locked up as tight as it's been the last 10 years.

    NOW WHAT?

Flip it over. Maybe the tumblers will fall out

Your going to have to reach in the hole and pull down the spring loaded latch that is holding the U bolt or lock bar.

Push down on the lid and pick up on the latch handle. Since you knocked the lock into the box it ain’t locked any more. May have to pry up on the handle if it’s rusted.

Did you break out the opposite lock? If it is like my RK, both locks have to be unlocked to open.

This. The side you punched isn’t locked anymore. Punch the other side.

On the bright side, if you’re having this much trouble with a $300 tool box I doubt you’ll be wrongly convicted of auto theft.

I probably woulda cut the lid off with a Metabo by now ......but I'm impatient.

Place in back of your truck. Park in Mesquite at night with a bunch of ruger and smith and Wesson stickers on your windows. It will be open in the morning.

                              R&K toolbox

My toolbox, R&K, started hanging up on one side, hard to get open, so I removed the angle that makes the internal spring lock mechanism work. I can look at how it is connected there and give you some insight. If you want, give me a few and I can post some pics on back side of that handle. The angle peace's are further back from lock and on the lid, they're welded. I get a pic showing it. There are rods on the top part of the box on the back side that controls both locks, so you can open with 1 handle. If the other side is locked, you may have to pop it out too. Will they handle lift? if not it is locked on other side. You may be able to use a metal rod/coat hanger-may be too flimsy. Bend it at an angle and catch the part that is held with the spring tension on it and pull toward cab of truck. I will have to look for the old key to see how it acts when locked, I went with a locking clasp and lock on outside of box and quit messing with the handle locks.
