We will be getting some samples to trial once we have everything poured and cured for about a month. The company we are leaning towards sells a prep mixture of some sort designed to get the pH set and surface texture within the suggested range for the stain to adhere.

Stains are done after the concrete has cured out. Integral color is a different product that is added to the drum of the mixer before you pour and can be used to color concrete as well.

For the op, the two most commonly spec’d acid stains for commercial projects are Scofield and Butterfield. I’d use Butterfield because they have a distribution center in Texas and I don’t have to add freight costs from California for Scofield.

Im getting rid of carpet in rental houses and staining concrete in the bathrooms and common areas. I like a medium brown. Tumbleweed is our newest color Im trying to standardize. I tried a Jerusalem Brown that turned out to look like spicy mustard. I hated it. I ate the extra cost to scrape the seal and restain darker…some powdered acetone mix.

As a rule of thumb for design….go darker lower and go lighter as going higher in the room. A dark floor, medium cabinets and light walls will make a room appear larger than say…
Light floor, medium cabinets and dark walls will make a space seem smaller.

Ive paid contractors to sand and clear seal homebuilder contractor poured slabs and it didnt look really good until I used a grey epoxy garage floor paint from Lowes and painted a 4” stripe around the entire perimeter. The epoxy paint stripe transitionally framed the floor and made it pop.

        Good luck MrRook.
I hope you have better luck than we had with the powder/acetone & sealer products. Ours was an epic failure...twice on our patio, done by two different contractors. Expensive and failed at the 2 year mark.

Lots of good abuse here. Every slab is different and no stain is going to match the color chart! Haha I’m a decorative concrete trainer and also retail all the materials and products to other DIY and commercial contractors out of our shop in Houston. Please feel free to PM me with any questions always happy to help out anybody from the GeeenScreen

Does it have more of an echo with just concrete?

My wife has a video of us DIY and we used kemiko brand products. We were pleasantly surprised by the finished product.

I don't think any more than a wood or tile floor. Most people also have a couple area rugs and that seems to help.

Kemiko is another brand I have saved. I'll be reaching out to a couple of yall who have offered some advice. Thanks tbh! I'll follow up after we get things rolling. Any more feedback between and then is welcomed

I used acetone stain for my wedding venue vs acid stain and very happy with it, sealed and wax it before weddings and looks great.
www.bellavitafarmstx.com should have some floor pics. Acetone can only be used indoors not UV stable
