I had a Barracuda done by Gray after a charter in Mexico recommended them. I personally will not recommend them after their customer service and fees. Was quoted $900 on the boat at which time I had to pay half to have the fish done. By the time it was all said and done it cost 3x the original quote. Toy looking replica sat in Florida for 2 months waiting to be shipped because they forgot to contact me about shipping fee that had to be paid that was 25% of total cost for crate, which was a cardboard box with a 1x8 that the fish was bolted to and a couple more 12” 1x4s on the sides.

Looking at New Wave and also found Coast to Coast taxidermy that looks really good and has detail inside the mouth.

I've been doing research on mounts the last few days. Plenty of bad reviews for Gray. There is even a Facebook page something like Gray Taxidermy Scammed us or something like that. A lot of unhappy customers.

            $2,700 for a barracuda replica?

I feel as if it was a scam and they got me. Fish looks nothing like the one I have pictures of on the boat. Wasn’t expecting it to be 100% exact but I think they could’ve done better.

I caught a 9' sailfish off the coast of Ixtapa many years ago. They asked me on the dock if I wanted it mounted, and I did. Paid (don't remember how much) them and wondered if I would ever see that fish again.

Sure enough, several months later, I get a call from a shipping company at Love Field, and, voila! They had my sailfish.

Ever since a Costa Rica trip a few years ago, I’ve wondered how much of a cut the deck hands get for signing someone up for a fish mount from Gray’s. Seems like they’re tied in with a lot of boats in a lot of different places.

My sail was still 100’ down in the water column when the main hand was already telling me it was 110”. After the pics, release, and an ice-cold victory Imperial, he brought out his book with brochures, pics, receipt log and everything, trying to get me to get a replica mount from Gray’s. I didn’t bite on the full mount, then he tried a half, just the head, jumping replica, etc. He was selling hard.

Our group caught a dozen nice sails that day on a few different boats and was told that every single one of them was 110”. I’ve seen a few reports from other people that caught 110” sails too. I think every sail that swims around Costa Rica must be 110”. That must be the magic money number between Gray’s and the deckhands.

My Costa Rica fishing captain also tried to get me to order a mount of my roosterfish from Gray's. They are probably mass produced in China. No thanks.

I had a Striped Marlin done by Gray's after the deckhand pushed them hard. I was happy with the mount but the price just kept going up.
I had a deckhand push me again this year and when I told him I already had one on the wall, he told me I need 2.

                          No sale.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Y’all have some really nice trophy rooms. I looked at all of the taxidermist suggested but ended up going with a totally different company. I went with Coast to Coast Fish Mounts specifically because of this video.

I took some still shots from the video. They seem to have more detail than anyone else I could find.

Mouth actually has a tongue and is painted inside.

Cut line is stenciled, rigid and natural. I saw some others that were almost a straight line.

                            Fins are rigid, not smooth.

                            Gills are open.

I placed my order today, should be ready in about 6 months.

Wow, Jerimy! That detail is outstanding!

Mine had the plain mouth like the one you posted, and the sail was made of masonite with ribs on one side set into a long groove. The other side was just plain masonite. You could lift the sail out of the groove.
