Looking at getting on a place in Bracketville and was wondering how everything is down that way as far as illegal crossing or any dangerous situation accurede that we don’t hear about. We have smaller kids and don’t want any drama if there is a big problem. I hunted down that way before and see illegals from time to time no problems at all, but with this open border policy you never know now days. We just don’t want the wild Wild West show one day or night.

How’s Bracketville
I haven’t ever encountered any face to face, but had some on game camera 2 years ago and this pic this week.
They did steal my Little Debbie large sized Oatmeal pies (and other food, but that doesn’t matter- the Oatmeal pies did🥲while we were out hunting one morning.
They probably listened to us all drive away from camp headed to the stands then helped themselves.
They only took food and left everything else alone, so that part was cool - they could have taken a lot more.

Have hunted there and family has owned properties in Kinney county for longer than I’ve been around. It really just depends where you’re at. Our ranch we’ve had since the late 90’s I could count on one hand the number of times we knew of illegals coming through. Since biden took office in 2021 there are illegals coming through all the time, and they aren’t the ones just looking for work, a drink of water, and a can of beans. Numerous times last summer we had them come through called BP to come get them, they were overwhelmed and said call sheriff, sheriff was also too tied up. After saying all that, our neighbors to the north haven’t had any issues. It really just depends on exactly where you’re at.

A friend of mine and his son was part of a big group who hunted a large place south of 90 between Bracketville and DelRio for 5/6 years..
The entire group just bailed on the place due to never ending issues with illegals. Very large groups constantly on cameras, constant vandalism of stands, cameras, feeders and their camp..
And several face to face conflicts..

I would not lease in that area if I still had kids hunting with me. The illegals issue is out of control for the most part around there. It all just depends on where you are. Close into town near Fort Clark isn’t too bad. Head a few miles towards Del Rio and it’s anyone’s guess. I’ve seen folks just happy to be found and turn themselves in. I’ve also seen them dressed in full black outfits from head to toe with black backpacks on that looked to me to be smugglers. They had no intention of being caught. I know of several ranches that have had to deal with break ins, trash left on their property, clothes left on property, deer stands slept in, etc. never leave a vehicle unlocked on your lease or it may not be there when you return.
The risk is real. I always have a pistol on me when I’m down there. It sucks to have to worry about people being on your land, but it’s just a reality now days. Literally never saw an illegal before 2020

If you have concerns about safety and security in a particular area, I would recommend consulting with local authorities, real estate agents, and other trusted sources for information and advice. Additionally, it's always a good idea to take necessary precautions and be aware of your surroundings when traveling or living in any area, regardless of its location or perceived level of security.
