It is a rare procedure, but I'm throwing it out there anyway. I have had osteoarthritis in my thumbs (joint where it connects to hand MCP) and first two fingers (middle joint PIP) of both hands for nearly 25 years. I've been getting steroid injections 3-4 times a year for about 20 years, and now it has little, lasting affect on the pain and swelling. It is so bad now, I can't play golf any more. I am going to start with surgery on my non-dominant, left hand, and if it works, will do right in a few months. They don't do joint replacement on thumbs, so it will be fused. The replacement joints are made of pyrolytic carbon, which ironically, are the very brand I used to do quality inspections on when working for a medical device company in Austin. Any one here ever have finger joint replacement surgery? If so, can you share your experience?
