Educate me about having a fire on Crystal Beach

Son getting married in April and they want a fire on the beach and pizza for rehearsal dinner.

Apparently they don't allow open fire on the beach, has to be in something

Anybody know if you need a ring or a full on container?

Not looking to have a giant bonfire, just a campfire size

Probably best to call Galveston County Sherriff's department since they would be the ones rolling up on the scene. I would bet it has to be container since a ring would still leave charred wood and ash on the beach which they would have to clean up. I looked at the website for bolivar and they don't give any information.

Figured this place is always handy to save a lot of searching and phone calls

Also had no idea who it fell under so GCSO is a help, thanks

Built many fires on Crystal Beach. As a matter of fact I built one in mid May last year along with hundreds of other people! Not sure if the law has changed or you got bogus info but definitely ask sheriffs department

Google says you can camp and build a fire on the 27 miles of beach on bolivar peninsula

You might want to make a phone call to authorities down there and get it from horses mouth

It wasn't me, but I was a witness to a "campfire" that grew to the point of containing/consuming two couches, a recliner and a full wooden dining set, all of which were obtained for $25 earlier that day from a church garage sale. One of the participants was arrested the following night for doing donuts in the surf in an '82 Buick Riviera (with a tapped keg in the trunk). Those guys were wasted.

I know this is no help, but it was at Crystal Beach.

We built a fire on the beach many times at Bolivar for the kids to cook smores, and just for the good old American fun of it. Never an issue, you'll see numerous fires up and down the beach on nice nights. Our VRBO stated that it was perfectly legal, and we never had it in any containment.

If building a fire on crystal beach is illegal, I’m a felon.

According to crystal beach dot com, campfires are legal.

Galveston County’s official website says that you have to extinguish “unattended campfires”.

                            Thanks for all the replies

I will confirm with SO before lighting fire if it needs to be in a container

I am going to go out on a limb (and after reading the links I posted) and say that there have been burn bans in Crystal Beach and Galveston County. It happens every year or so when in drought conditions and an outdoor burn ban is issued.

The last time in Jefferson County where I live was about 5-6 months ago. The county judge issued a 90 day ban or until rescinded. About 5 days later it started pouring rain and hasn’t stopped more than a few days since.

My guess is that a temporary burn ban was issued and some people saw “burn ban in Galveston County!!” and “assumed” that fires on the beach were illegal. That was probably true….. for 30 days, 4 years ago…..
