Help Me Pick A Vehicle For My Daughter

She turns 16 next month, and I've got a few options I'm looking at. Not wanting to break the bank, but willing to finance for 3 years. Some things I'm wanting on it is 4WD/AWD, handsfree for phone, and backup camera with sensors. Fuel mileage is a consideration, but so long as I can balance the monthly payment with the fuel and insurance bill I'll be fine with a little lower MPG.

Here's what I'm looking at so far:

    - 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited, 3.6 L V6, 101k mi
    - 2013 F150 Super crew XLT, 5.0, 176k mi
    - 2016 Explorer XLT 3.5 L V6 Non-Ecoboost, 102k mi
    - 2008 F150 KR Supercrew, 5.4 L, 176k mi
    - 2015 Jeep Cherokee Trail hawk, 3.2 L V6, 118k mi
    - 2010 Jeep Liberty 3.7 L V6, 98k mi

Yes, I understand that I've narrowed the list to either Ford or Jeep, but I'm partial to Ford for trucks, I've never really been a Chevy/GM fan, Toyota is beyond my price range, and no to Dodge/Ram unless it has a 2nd Gen Cummins. I'm basically needing to know about longevity and if anyone here has experienced issues with these models and years. I'm willing to put some money into a vehicle for her to keep it running, but not willing to throw parts at something that's going to be an overall money pit.

    Thanks.

    Why 4x4 for a 16yo?

Those jeeps have been known to be junk.

Not sure what the budget is but if dang sure try and stretch for a Toyota.

        Explorer. More versatile.

Of the choices listed, I would look hard at the ‘13 F150. But, we got both of our kids Nissan Frontiers for their first rigs. As mentioned above, maybe consider a Tacoma. Just a thought. Good luck with it all.

Get her a Toyota so she always gets home.

When my oldest turned 16, 12 years ago, I found her a sweet '78 Trans Am. She wanted a Corolla instead. Her granny bought her one. That thing was flawless.

In hindsight I'm glad she got the Yota. I don't want a girl stuck on the side of the road.

The 2016 explorer seems the most reasonable if they are all priced the same.

I wouldn't touch the 5.4 (drove one for years, those engines are high maintenance) or any of those jeeps.

The deer lease, camping, bad weather, and the most important reason...better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it. I've had 2WD vehicles enough, and will only have more capable vehicles from now on. Plus, if I like it enough, then I'll drive it some, too [emoji3526]

                  Of those, the explorer.

I don't disagree, but they're higher than a cat's back. And if they're not, they have high mileage.

What would be considered too high for a Toyota? Rav-4 a good one?

Depending on your price range, Id look for a 2003-2009 4Runner with 4wd. Those years came with a V6 or V8 - both bullet proof. Wish I still had mine.

I was about to comment on the jeeps. That high a mileage is asking for problems. We have been super lucky with our 2014 jeep cherokee. We have 125k miles and it's been an amazing vehicle. I've heard many stories about them having problems.

My 2 cents, if your confident in her driving ability get her something a little newer, say around 50k miles and look there. My vote is find a toyota, get her a rav4 and it'll last a long time.

As bad as I hate to say it, a Toyota with 2x the miles than what is listed would probably be more dependable.

Liberty or explorer for me. Liberty is not overly large and nimble but yet has nice room in it. Peppy for its size. Probably all need new plugs etc at the 100k interval

I would find a tacoma even with 250K miles before I bought any of those other than maybe the 5.0 ford. If you cant find a tacoma an older 4runner would be my next option. They are all dang near bullet proof and you can find them for probably the same price as the options you listed.
