Sometimes you have to do it again.

A few years back I harvested my largest WT buck ever on a public hunt. Since I like to piddle with taxidermy I mounted him myself. I didn't like the mount from the very start. I used a form I had laying around so the cape didn't fit correctly. The ears were wonky and... well, I just didn't like it.

That mount has been hanging over my head for years. Literally, he was over the couch.

Every time I looked at him I was filled with disappointment when I should be happy to take such a nice deer. So I decided to go another direction and make him into something I wouldn't be ashamed to hang back on the wall.

The photo of the original mount is after I had him soaking to soften the cape so his fur looks weird.

I made the new mount from some sticks in the yard and even twisted the cordage myself from tree bark. I love making bushcraft cordage.
