    Blinn to A&M transfer question.

Seems a lot of gentlemen here went the Blinn to A&M route so I wanted to ask a question.

My daughter was set to attend either Texas Tech or Sam. She was accepted to both, but decided she didn't want either. She set her sights on A&M and was not accepted. She was offered a program where she attends one of their other campuses for a year then can transfer to the main campus.

Issue is she would rather go to Blinn. The dance coach there has shown interest and it would be a lot closer to home. She was not offered the program for Blinn to A&M though. My question is, were most you guys on the Blinn to A&M program? Or did you just attend Blinn and and take care of your business while there?

I had a good GPA at Blinn and went and visited directly with the TAMU College of Ag Department Advisor and Admin to get face and name recognition within the department. I had to pierce the university system with my application but the department helped to ensure most of my credits transferred to apply to my degree.

    Good luck to LadyCEO.

You are referring to Blinn TEAM. Two of my kids attended Blinn (not Blinn TEAM) and got into A&M after a year. I had a niece and several friends' daughters go the Blinn TEAM route with no issues.

Getting accepted to Blinn TEAM is a big deal. She must have good grades and be active in high school.

She wasn't accepted to Blinn team. That is our concern. The people I know personally went the Blinn team route so I just wanted to know how many went to Blinn without the team designation and made it in.

She's active, and has pretty good grades, but her school has an "Academy". If you're not in the Academy you are way down on ranking by default.

I went the other direction 20 years ago, went to Tech. I'd take a trip to visit campus, etc. Met some great people, heck, met my wife!

OK gotcha. Like I said...two of my kids went straight to Blinn out of high school without Blinn TEAM. My son got in to TAMU after 2 years at Blinn and graduated in 4 years (Ag Communications).

My daughter went to Blinn and got into TAMU after one year (Communications). She's a Junior at TAMU now.

I think going into Blinn motivates them to get into the big school. Classes transferred right in so they didn't lose credits.

I have another daughter (senior in high school) who will be attending Blinn in the fall and follow the same path into TAMU. Both my Blinn kids picked majors that allowed for easier acceptance into TAMU.

Thank you. That's what I was hoping to hear.

I got offered the same program your daughter got. I chose A&M Corpus Christi for my freshman year and transferred to college station. That freshman year goes so quick that I don't think it matters too much where you go. I wasn't the biggest fan of Corpus but if she is dead set on A&M, then its a guaranteed path. You have a good shot transferring after going to Blinn but its not for sure.

Both of my older boys went to Blinn first and then transferred to A&M. The oldest was industrial Engineering and middle boy is at Mays. The absolute key is grades but personal face time/recognition is a huge help as well.

My son is graduating TAMU in May and went to Blinn for one year and transferred into Ag-Econ. He has had a great 4 years down there and is a part of BCA which is Brotherhood of Christian Aggies. He wants to get into sales...so he will be good to go in May. He is also getting married in May.

Most of the time with transfers, credit might transfer but GPA for each credit will not transfer. In other words she will transfer with a 0 GPA with her basics done and that might be a big booster to her overall GPA. Just something to think about with transfers.

Small world, my son is visiting Blinn today at the request of their Football program. We will see where this goes.

I know his mother and I will be glad when he makes a choice where we can help him if needed on his plan.

Best of Luck OP on your daughters journey.

I was not the best high school student. I went to Blinn fulltime in hopes to one day go to A&M.
Being around a bunch of people who went to A&M instantly motivated me. Transferred to A&M after two years at Blinn. Graduated from A&M 3 years later.

We called it Blinndergarten when I was there. But looking back, that's probably where I grew up the most.

Yes sir. Was always known as the same but seemingly serves the purpose. It is absolutely crazy now what the requirements are to get into UT and A&M. I am in my early 50s and when I got out of HS you effectively had your pick of the two/both with a relatively low 3 point GPA and an 1050 or so SAT. Granted, a lot had better credentials than that, but those numbers could get it done. Good luck to everyone's kids.

Had two cousins that went to A&M Galveston and then to main campus. There's lot's of options now in the A&M network. I'd encourage her to go with the sure thing to get here to CS. As someone mentioned earlier, lot's of folks go the Blinn to main campus route (my wife included) but it's not guaranteed. The program she got accepted to is (from my understanding anyways).
