    Nilgai success....finally!

Went on my 5th nilgai hunt last Saturday night. It was a great thermal hunt with great bull taken. I couldn't be happier with the guide, and everything about the hunt.

Hunt took place down in Brownsville. Guide supplied thermals and gun, .308 with thermal scope. This was my first thermal hunt. We saw numerous nilgai on plowed fields even a couple other bulls. Guide spotted this one walking towards up on the road beside a plowed field. We were on foot so we easily set up at field edge directly in front of him and let him walk on in. At approx 60 yards the guide poked me in the side and I made a center mass frontal shot. He never took another step.

Previous hunts didn't go the same way. 2 bow hunts with the old 4Arrows outfitters, DIY King Ranch hunts. I think they were $100 per day. Tons of animals but I never loosed and arrow. Came so close a few times. 2 other hunts were around wildlife refuge down there on farm fields at night. Spotlight hunts, .30-378 Weatherby in the shoulder, no animal found.

Filled the freezer big time with some great meat!! Cooked some ribeye's Sous Vide and was incredible!!

              Congrats on a stud!
I’d also like to know what ammunition the guide had for the .308, as I just bought a Ruger SFAR 308 and intended to tote it on a future Nilgai killing spree.

I know shooting them at night is legal because they are a invasive species but I respect the Nilgai too much to hunt them at night as they are in my opinion truly the hardest animal to hunt in texas and such a worthy adversary that deserve better fair chase than that......but to each their own good bull by the way I do tend to see alot of the thermal bulls are young because you can't pick out a big blue in the dark

Federal Sierra Match Point 168 gn.

JG Arvelo was my guide. Highly recommended! He did everything he said he would do and was very reasonable.
