    2021 Jeep Wrangler "steering issue"

Anyone experienced this? We have a 2021 Jeep Wrangler that we bought new while we were still living in Texas. We moved to Montana in September and sometime around October when the first real cold snap hit, I was taking a left turn and as I was coming out of the turn the steering locked up.

I was able to pull hard on the steering wheel and get it "unlocked". I brought it to our local Jeep dealer and they said they experienced the same lock up during a cold morning test drive. They inspected everything and said it was low on steering fluid. They topped the fluid off and I picked up the jeep. That didn't fix the issue. We don't drive the jeep daily, but when we do (especially on cold days) it still locks up at random times.

I did a little research and found that the jeep gladiators have had steering box issues. But didn't see anything about the Wranglers having any issues.

I'm bringing it back to the dealer later this week to get looked at again. Have any of y'all experienced this or do we have any jeep mechanics that can help me out?

I can’t offer any help but I have heard about the steering problems. Mostly “loose steering” complaints for the ‘21 models. The ‘18-‘20s had a steering box issue that had a recall to address. Hope the dealership can figure it out for you.

Thanks, that's what I have read as well. It does have a 2.5" lift, so maybe there's an issue with the lift? I don't know. I'm just worried when my wife is in the driver's seat.

I would sell it and get a 4Runner. That issue is probably never going to go away.

I recently read the trucks and wranglers 2018-2021 had a law suit resulting from steering issues. The judgement went to the owners of the Jeeps mentioned above. You should be able to take it to a dealership and have it repaired at no cost. Good luck!

Yes sir, I know how you feel. We only have 12k miles on this one and I don’t have a lot of confidence in it at this point.

Does it steer like it should when the temperature warms up? If so, you might check the steering gear box (not power steering pump) for any water. Had this happen years ago in N. Dakota. Doesn't take much to lock it up, especially around 0*.

Yes sir. It steers fine when the temperature warms up. I’ll definitely ask them to check the steering gear box. I appreciate your advice!!

                          2021 Jeep Wrangler "steering issue"

I had issues with my Rubicon JL, but wandering vs locking up. I had a Mopar 2.5” lift installed by the dealer, was scary to drive. 3 times back to dealer and they couldn’t fix it. They replaced the steering gear box but no improvement. It needed control arms and away bars to get aligned correctly. Ordered parts and fixed it myself.

Check with Chrysler for technical service bulletin.

There is a DIY fix out now:
