My hat's off to all of you whose thumbs are green.

About the only thing I can keep alive is rosemary and this is because rosemary is hard to kill.

Enjoy the fruits and vegetables of your labor! For me, to the farmer's markets I go.

I wouldn't worry about "over-doing it"... We plant WAY more seeds so that we can ensure we get a good stand germinated and we pick the healthiest plants to transplant into the garden... save the extras for a while in case we have early season casualties (and we always do). One issue of planting just enough plants to totally supply your needs, is that likely, depending on the produce, you will have to harvest over a long period of time to get enough to do the canning/preservation. With a large plot, you can harvest once or twice and have your produce stored away. You can also share it with family and friends. To us, that's the BEST part! Right now, we have 5 seed trays that hold 162 plants that we are trying to get going. Earlier, we had 4 trays of the same size for the early season veggies such as lettuce, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli and Bok Choy... They are going great guns right now.

That creeping crud that my wife has had for a week now seems to be getting better, BUT, she has been successful in sharing it with me!! Feel like death warmed over, but we were able to get out this morning and get the strawberry bed and main in-ground plots ready to plant.

The greenhouse is about over-flowing and most is almost ready to go into bags or in the ground. Check out these pics. In the greenhouse, the Bok Choy and lettuce are busting out! Our blackberry propagation did not go very well... Out of over 100 cuttings, we only got a handful to take root and grow. Those few are doing well though. They will be used to fill in gaps in the mature in-ground berry plot. The in-ground plot is a mature 3 year old plot of blackberries. They did not do real well last year early but finished strong after some giant efforts by my bride to salvage the plot. This year however, if every bloom that's out there right now makes a berry, we'll have gallons soon!! The new plot planted last year in wicking tubs is also doing really well. It is just not as mature and thus smaller than the mature plot. It should finish strong too. We are a lot better equipped to take care of them this year.

Another contender planter here. They grow well for me and I think they taste great. I've been wanting to try some blue lake but I just got too many contender seeds to use up first.

We have been planting the Roma & Roma 2 bush beans the last few years. I planted some contender last year because I couldn’t hardly find the Roma seed last year. The contender grew well also. I am leaning more to the pole beans these days. I like Mr Charlie’s idea of planting on each side of the row after using the high wheel. I honestly had to look up the high wheel he mentioned. I am going to get one of those.
That three point garden bedder I bought after seeing Mr Charlie’s is a life saver, if you have a larger garden spot especially. I haven’t fully gotten use to it yet.

Finally got started on a garden plot today. I figured there would be a lot of roots left in the ground from the dozer clearing work we had done. I was right. Decided to use the box blade with rippers on it to check for roots and about 6 hours later I had a pretty clean plot. Tried to level it up some with the blade. I have my neighbors tiller hooked up and ready to go in the morning. Dumptruck load of mushroom mulch will be here at 10:15 am. Gonna spread it around best i can and get to tilling. I'm winging everything. Never had a garden other than containers/raised beds. Never used a tractor tiller. Gonna be an adventure!

              Just a few roots....

Do jalapeno plants come in different veriety?

I've gotten mine from Home Depot, and while they do ok. They never seem to get big (good for stuffing and jalapeno poppers).

I've held back picking them, but they begin to turn red on the vine.

Yes they do come in different varieties. Some are designed not as hot and some are bigger. For bigger look for names like mammoth or giant ect. Nurseries usually have a better plant than home depot

Thanks. My wife just said let's go to the nursery this year.

Probably going to start prepping the area this afternoon, and make a trip mid week. Want to put some lettuce in for her.

Yes believe there will be times when a person(not everyone) will say “to hell with this.” I am going to the farmers market or Krogers.
