Cucumbers won’t set, tried hand pollinating yesterday, we’ll see.

Clark, those blooms on your cucumber plants look like all make blossoms... can't tell for sure... If there's a tiny pickle under the bloom, it's a female bloom. You can hand pollinate those by taking one of the male blooms and stripping away the pedals of the flower and dusting the female flower with the little "Q-Tip" of pollen in the male flower... If you have an all male blossom plant, you'll never get a cuke...

Hey gang, I'll let Rocky chime in and fill in the details, but he's continuing to harvest from his garden like never before!! Here are a few pics he sent me... I'll tell you that pickle pic, though nice, doesn't tell the whole story... That pic is a celebratory pic... It's a pic of his official 101'st quart of pickles done since May 29th!! This time, the pic is about the beer in celebration!! The other pics are of his initial harvest of Blue Lake Green beans!! Beautiful crop of beans!!

Ain't no way I'd ever put plain old feed hay in my garden... Heck I bought a bale of wheat straw/stubble to use in our strawberry raised bed and my wife uses it in the nesting boxes for the chickens... Within a week, we were picking green chutes of wheat coming up in the strawberry bed! Crap outgrew the strawberries!

I tried Rocky's recipe for dill pickles. Nice and easy. My cukes are coming on strong so I broke open a jar today to sample and they were great. They haven't even set up that long yet so I imagine they will only get better. Fam loved them so looks like it's going in the rotation! Thanks for the suggestion

Trying desperately to save my maters! I'm pouring the water to 'em as much as I think I can get away with... This heat is kicking their arses!! From a distance, they look good because you can see lots and lots of maters, but up close, you can see that the reason they're all so visible is because the foliage is shriveling up! They're all on a drip system so I can give 'em a 30 minute drink, wait a few hours and give 'em another one... So far they have been responding OK to that... I'm just trying to get them to the point they ripen good enough for harvest... we grew 'em for canning... been eating them sliced and chilled for over a week now and they are SO sweet and delicious!! Just simply cannot buy 'em in the store that taste like fresh grown/fresh picked maters!!

Both my tomatoes and peppers are looking sad. Not sure if I can save them… I have been spraying them with a bit of water off and on besides the normal watering they usually get. Not sure what to do about the above normal heat wave we are experiencing. Going to buy ice tonight and place it around the plants hoping to give them a cooldown and hope they respond well over night.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Only thing about watering is I'd keep it off the foliage if you're watering during the daytime... Mine are all on a drip system that just puts water on the soil at the base of the plants. Within 15 minutes after the watering starts, the plants respond to it... I picked a couple buckets of tomatoes this evening...
