I run a Cat 299 D3 XE (over 2000 hours on it). Mainly mulching. I've ran kubota's and New Hollands. Kubota's seem like solid machines for occasional use, but I could not run one for 8 hours and be able to walk the next day. The Cat's controls seem smoother and easier to operate too.
Stay away from foot pedal machines.

Ha ha. You guys need to listen to Kong. I have been in the heavy equipment business for somewhere around 45 years, and a Certified Vehicle Fire Investigator for the last 17 years of that. If you are running a mulcher on a skidsteer, there are only 2 kinds. Those that have burned...and those that will. Cat had their share of them too about 15 years ago, but they aggressively find and correct their problems. I know. Cat had their own Fire Investigators, and the dealership that I worked for (the largest in the US), had me to investigate fires as well. Fires are not typically covered by warranty unless you can PROVE that a defect in materials or workmanship caused the fire. Otherwise, it is an insurance issue. I got some covered by warranty, but most had the necessary evidence consumed in the fire.
I don't have a skidsteer, but my farm equipment is Kubota. If I was going to buy a SS, it would be a Cat though.
