    Considerate loggers

I had heard that there was some cutting going on at my San Augustine county lease. Took a ride out there Saturday to get a feeder that needed to have the barrel replaced and as I was riding down our lease road and got to the south end of the lease where my stand setups are and there it is- clearcutting going on. As I headed back in the Ranger to my setup I got to thinking that my camera is on a pine tree that might be headed to a mill somewhere...when I got back there I was relieved...

I had such a great bow setup- lock on attached to a pine tree that had a big Holly tree growing alongside it to help conceal me....not so much now...

Going to have to be creative to get a new set up ready, but at lease I still have my stuff.

Happened to me on the second weekend of bow season one year. Got there and saw all the equipment. One of the guys showed me which pile had the tree my camera was still strapped to. My well hidden pop up was sitting in the wide open.

Deer were back in there in no time though.

Happened to me 3 times. Just when you get a set dialed in, then bamm. It's a great opportunity to build a food plot

I thought this thread was sarcastic cause I didnt think a thing such as a considerate logger existed. Glad you found one

Good deal! You’re Really going to have to be super still in that stand now!

There are a few. They cut timber on our lease two years ago and we asked them to take out some big oaks on the edge of one food plot so they wouldn’t shade the plot and suck up all the moisture. We flagged the trees and they cut them. On another plot they took out some trees for us to provide a better view of the plot. But….(there’s always a but), they screwed up the roads dragging to the sets. The year before I had worked over the roads with my dozer and built berms to handle runoff. They pretty well screwed them up, and I had already sold my dozer so I had to build them back with my backhoe, which is a lot harder to do. All in all though, they were pretty considerate.

We have jad really good luck with our loggers in the past. Of course it helps to get everything in writing when signing on rhe dotted line to sell

This is private property so I will be interested to see if they do any clean up. Back in the old days, after a clear cut, all the duff used to get wind rowed but timber companies quit doing that years ago. After all the equipment is gone I will get out there with my tractor to see what kind of improvements I can do. The treeline behind the pine tree with my lock on still on it has a creek branch that runs thru it. Maybe I will be able to clear me some paths back to it.
