    Saved a buck today!

Driving to our place to quail hunt today, came up on a nice 12 that was stuck on a barbed wire fence. Seemed like he had been there a day or so as the poor guy was so exhausted he didn’t even lift his head or put up a fight when I walked up to him. Was interesting the look in his eyes as he just slowly opened them and stayed staring at me eye to eye with a look of exhaustion and desperation. Got him out of the fence and he took off but seemed like his front leg may have been broken. Hopefully the old guy makes it.

Not sure how to post a video, but I took a video of it, if anyone knows how to post it

I hope he lives but he likely won't. You might want to check for birds in a couple days and get his horns. At least you gave him a fighting chance.

        Well done MrRed.
2 preseasons ago, I watched a small 6 point choke himself out between two strands of barbed wire and his rack was hung up on net wire. I saw no good way to free him with the fight he still had and his predicament. It didnt take long for him to perish. It was a major pain untangling him dead. I couldnt imagine doing it with a live critter.

Easiest way is to upload to YouTube and share the link here.

Cut the fence. Easiest way. Then fix it. Or put him down if unable to. Ethical>Legal at times.

Good on you OP! Hope he makes it

I have released three deer from fences over the years, and one goat. One was a buck fawn, the other two were does. The fawn and one doe were caught as I watched them jump the fence, no bones broken, just a little hide and hair gone.

I’m sure they both made it, but the other doe was iffy. She was pretty worn out. She laid there for a couple minutes after I freed her, but she didn’t break anything either so it’s possible she made it.

The dang goat had his horn hung up in a net wire fence and he mashed the hell out of my finger when I was trying to get him out.
