    Dang pigs…..!!!!

Did a little mowing at the family farm just before all the snow and ice hit on Monday. Food plots sat fallow last year, and I wanted to get them mowed down nice and low before spring green up to help with putting them in this year. It appears we had quite a bit of pig activity on the place early fall last year, as about 1/4 acre of the food plot looked like a crater field from the moon landing. I had to run the shredder at almost full lift to keep from bottoming out as I went through/over some of the holes. The worst ones I had to just back the mower deck over the hole from all sides to get it mown. Looks like I need to add a full day with a box blade to my food plot plans this year, and I need to get the feeder up and running so I can get them showing up somewhat consistently… time to put a little pressure on them so they bother someone else’s place.

I had a couple spots on my former property that the hogs just loved to root up. I lost count of the times I had to mow as you described then take my dozer down there and level them up. In a couple months they would hit it again. I hope the guy that bought that place has a way to fix them because I’m sure they are still digging bomb craters.

There is something growing in that spot the hogs are after. Identify what it was and spray for it. Nutsedge is what they look for in my plots, I have been spraying for it several years now and eliminated quite a few hog spots.

I’m pretty positive that it is Johnson grass rhizomes…
I am about to start waging war on it. I need it gone regardless as I’m trying to get back to native Blackland Prairie.
