    Knife making gurus….

I know there’s several guys who have mastered the art with in this community. I’m interested in learning how to build trap spring knives and how to build ultra lightweight, backpacking knives potentially from hacksaw blades.

Is there anybody in Texas that offers a class or a weekend hands on kind of thing so that the learning curve can be flatten? This seems like something that could either take 10 years to master or 3, depending on how you go about it.

    Anyone? Anyone?

This thread is not working out the way I thought it would go!

First tip, forget hacksaw blades. Buy known steel. You don’t know exactly what that blade is made from, so heat treat and temper takes multiples to find what it needs. And the next batch of blades may be something different and you are back at square one. Quality knife steel is cheap enough it’s the best route.

Trap spring knives are cool, I made a few early on in my journey. Then I got a rockwell tester, and figured out they only harden to about 48.

Might look up James Huse in Buda, he does some lessons.
