Johnny House for quail and dog training? Good idea or not

Ive got a 8 month old lab in gun dog training and thinking about putting a johnny house out for quail this year. Property is about 15 minutes away and 18 acres of mesquite and field with lots of native grass. Considering buying some bob whites to put into a johnny house this summer and use them for training and late season hunting.

Anyone tried this? Any issues with rattlesnakes going into the johnny houses? Seems they could get in there pretty easily and cause issues.

Lets hear your thoughts on this...thanks!

Me and my son just got done building one and stocked it with bobs. But haven’t released any yet. We are wanting on on this winter weather storm to pass. We have a 8 month old GSP. This is my first time using one. But I did send the pup to a trainer and he used them. I planing on build a few more. We did a YouTube video of building it. My son wanted to start a YT channel so we decided start it with.

I got the quail in Colorado city and my place is south of Abilene.

A lot of trainers use them as well as people restocking a ranch with Quail. I've seen snakes get in them but I do not think it happens often. Very easy way to have a supply of birds anytime you want to train.

They work great I have used one for Training for years.

Also a good way to introduce Younger Kids to Quail hunting!

They are better than nothing . But a lot of work. Snakes, skunks, hawks, coons all learn quick it’s the easiest meal in town. Best method it to let someone else raise them and just buy from them. Lol. But those places around me are all but gone.

I had an old man not far from me that had a supper tall flight pen with a perch up top. You had 1 opportunity to kill those birds. They could FLY!!! Most of the others I bought from 60% you would have to use a launcher or kick one like pele (horrible for working young dogs)

            Build it right !
We have 1 Johnny box and a big flight pen in Oklahoma.
Can quail hunt year around. If you get a permit from the state.
If you build it tight and strong all is well.
Raise em in a flight pen, then put in Johnny box before releasing to acclimate and home in on a place to return if not killed.
