I've had quite a few animals mounted and can luckily say i've never been on the outs with a taxi. I've had some work that was subpar but been lucky to have taxidermists that communicated and set expectations. Eveyone seems to know of a taxidermy that screwed alot of people or is in the process of doing it. We had one local here in Ellis County that ended up stealing a large amount of money and left the state, i think there were threads here and other forums/pages about him.

Is it just the nature of the business? Curious to hear your thoughts.
Every single taxidermist that I know, has lots of other hobbies. Most are good at their craft, but can’t seem to treat it like a job. They take in work because they see the income, but only get the work out when they actually need money.

Kinda like when it comes to contractors, while some are really good at their skill set, are poor in business sense. Getting both to perform above standard is not as common as you would think.

Edit: I see Deer Tamales already answered his own question

I have this quote hanging in my office and can be applied to many things in life.

        "THE BITTERNESS OF POOR QUALITY
        LINGERS LONG AFTER THE SWEETNESS
OF A CHEAP PRICE IS FORGOTTEN!"

Easy for "Billy Bob" to claim he's the new taxi in town and charge $349 for a shoulder mount while taking business away from the true artists with years of experience. Some customers strictly shop price, while others want the best job done regardless of price. If you've been around long enough, you know who are the best, and who to avoid. just my opinion
Do you have Billy Bobs number?

In 40 years of deer hunting, I’ve used 8 different taxidermists, and in my opinion, lack of time management skills is the biggest issue involved in the bad experiences I’ve had. Many people get into taxidermy because they like to hunt, but the best taxidermists I’ve used don’t get to hunt very much.
I have no problem waiting a year to get a deer back, but there are a lot out there that tell customers what they think they want to hear with no intention of delivering.

I'm not cheap and still had poor experience on a very well known and higher priced bird taxidermist. I actually used him based on referrals and didn't even ask price nor did I shop it other than reputation......guess just bad luck on my end
