    Graceland/Derksen Cabin Shell

I am looking at getting one of these for an off season project this year. My thought is to have it delivered to my house where I can do the finish out myself - then have it delivered to a new lease before next season.

I need a place the whole family can sleep and the existing accommodations are what I would call “rustic” at best.

There are a lot of DIY cabin threads, but wanted to specifically see if anyone has finished out either of these models, and if you would stay away from anything?

I would probably not put one of these on a place that I owned, but like the idea of a cabin over a travel trailer if I have a longer term goals with a lease property. (Also my last travel trailer was a maintenance nightmare)

Was thinking of the 12x24 lofted barn cabin model.
I’m located in Midland and the Graceland building dealer is fairly close by.

If you have to hire someone to move it , I would check out getting a container & build it out. No wood to rot etc.

If you’re gonna buy a premade, check out Leland’s.
Much better quality. We built a cabin for our east Tx property.
Silver Creek structures was the best on this last go around.
Built another cabin to live in while we built our home.
Lot tighter, better sealed, just plain better built.
And No, I don’t work for either lol.
Like Dukfvr said though, those containers are nice and durable.
Could move a hundred times and never weaken or rot.
      No pests either.

Thanks - I just took a look at their website. Their pricing looks a little better than the Graceland/Derksen ones. Did you go w/ a shingle or metal roof?

If you're handy enough to finish it out, why not build it yourself. I bet you cut price in half and you can make exactly what you want. That could be framed by 1 person in a day or two.

Yep - I am considering that as well - but my biggest concern is that I don't really have an assistant, or a completely level building surface to work on it.
If I cut the size down to maybe 12'x20' - I could probably handle moving the materials around myself. (or i would just hire a framing crew to do the floor & framing).

                If...

If you decide to frame out yourself, I'd offer to help you. I'm planning on doing something similar in the near future and this would be great practice. Problem is I just applied for part time at Academy so my free time is about to all disappear.

Thanks for the input - I think I have a framing assistant lined up, and ran the numbers. Graceland wants like 12K for that Cabin I posted up. I think I can build something similiar, and do the finish out for under what shell would cost.

For those who have built these before - what you would you use for the large runners?

The longest I can find at McCoys are 20' 4x6's that I would need to special order.

I have to think 4X6 would be better than 4x4's.

How important is it to use one solid 20' 4x6 vs bolting together 2, 10' ones.
If I went to 24' long building, I would basically have to bolt the beams together...

that's what i was thinking too. find one to get it build onsite. (whichever site you choose) but i bet that price is not right, right now. $4000 seems pretty cheap in todays market

spec it the way you want it. ie upgrade a few of the parts

I did a 14x32 lofted Derksen. Was happy with the quality.

Did metal on the Leland !
Shingles on the last one from silver creek.
Saved a little money. Plus I can put metal on later if needed.

Did you finish it out at your ranch or off site and then deliver? Curios long the finish out took.

We finished out a Graceland building on our Oklahoma hunting property and have been very happy with it.
