    Thermal Scanner Question

I’m real new to the thermal world. I would like to get a thermal scanner, but go cross eyed looking at all the specs across the market. I don’t care about frills like recording, Wi-Fi, etc. I want a unit I can scan with to detect animal heat at 600+ yards, and I’m not overly concerned with identification. What are y’all’s thoughts on a entry level unit that is best for the money?

These work really well. Used one in many different hunting scenarios. I use a Trijicon Reap IR 35 to scan with when I aoudad or hunt out west now. Its a game changer when the conditions are right.

You really need to give a price range you can afford. 1, 2 ,5,.. 10K. You can find them From $500 to well over $10K. If you can get to the 2000-2500 there are some pretty good options.

I have the AGM TM19-384. That thing is incredible for the price. It'll easily detect heat that far out but ID will be very difficult. 200-300yd range is pretty great though.

If you want to spot them over 600 out and don’t care about ID them be sure and save a couple hundred for some great hiking boots. You’re going to need them. Been there, and then got a good scanner. Spent 80% of the night walking across fields to find out that blob was a cow at 800 not a hog at 400. Etc

I'll be using it more to assist during the daytime locating animals then using binoculars to identify.
