That was one specific company, Griddy, which no longer exists. They only made $10/month per customer. The customer then got wholesale priced electricity. Those people weren’t complaining when they were paying 2-3 cents/kWh. Griddy actively reached out to customers before the 2021 freeze and urged them to switch to a fixed rate contract. Those that didn’t heed that, got burned and had to pay upwards of $9 (that’s 9 DOLLARS) per kWh. The legislature then basically said that residential customers were too stupid to have access to index pricing and banned it in the residential market. Variable rate products still exist and do suck, but they don’t expose customers like the plans under Griddy did.

You shouldn’t have a bad experience with any of them really. That’s why I don’t care about “star ratings” or “reviews”. Most people’s dissatisfaction comes from their own inability to make payments on time (resulting in late fees, disconnection notices, etc) or their lack of understanding of the plan they signed up for. i.e. some gimmick plan with a bill credit, tiered pricing, “free” nights/weekends, etc. All companies should be able to provide an on time bill and if you do your part to pay it on time, there’s nothing to complain about.

No, I don't recommendenergy ogre. Why pay them a monthly fee of $10 bucks if they only work for you a few days before your contract expires?
I had them and did not do anything I couldn't have done myself- once I found out how they work I terminated them

Couldn’t disagree more. I tried it myself and couldn’t touch what ogre does for me. I’d pay double what they ask to stay with ogre and would still be saving big bucks in electric!
