    Chevy Camaro Owner Question

For those of you that have replaced your tires on your Chevy Camaro SS 1LE or ZL1, which tires did you choose and why? Brand, type (summer or all season), size? I know we have some Camaro owners on here and it is time for me to get new ones (even though these only have 9k miles on them).

I am also on Camaro6 forums, checking out their info. Thanks for the information.

I always buy summer tires, and any car moma drives I get run-flats...

What is your tire size? I know the ZL1 1LE is a 305/30/19 and 325/30/19, but I am not sure if the SS 1LE has the same size wheel/tire.

What are you looking to do? A good all around tire? PS4S, or even Nitto 555's. Really any tire at tire rack under the list of summer performance will work well in all conditions except snow. Not awesome, and will probably be worse than the factory tires. But they will last longer. If Falken makes it, the 615's are really nice, I have run a set of those. They still won't compare to the factory Supercar's, but they are decent all-arounder.

Want serious grip while still street legal? It's a 19x11" front and 19x12" rear rim if I recall, so the best route you can go is Falken RT660's. The Falken is about the best MFG for tires that fit your rims. They require a lot of heat to grip really well, so winter driving isn't the smartest, even in Texas.

I think Bridgestone makes the RE-71rs that will fit the factory tire sizes above, and they do better in the cold. The ZL1 1LE comes with Goodyear Supercars, and they are as sticky as anything out there. They are 160 treadwear, and effectively a slick. These are sunny day, summer tires only.

Tires are fun. First, finding a set that fits. It took me 6 months to get my RT660's, and I need to other another set soon (3 sets in 4,000 miles). And all MFG's that make a performance tires generally have lead times right now.

I am not sure of the tire size. I will have to look. The stock Goodyears are ok, but I have heard that there are better options. I am in amazement that after 9k miles, I am having to replace the tires. Just crazy.

I want an all around tire. I might track the car every once in a while, but really want it for the street and strip. I am thinking of going a little wider, so I will have to relocate the wiring harness for the fuel line on the driver's side. The Goodyears I have now are the winter tires and I drive it occasionally during the winter, but not that often. I get sideways sometimes when I take off. LOL! Basically looking for more grip and a different look and stance for the car.

I am trying to get a lot of opinions and seeing what others have done. I am not so sure that I want to spend a lot of money on anything for the car right now because I want to trade it in for a ZL1, but I am not going to do that with 5% interest rate.

I gotcha. Definitely take a look at the Michelin PS4S, they are very good all around tires and offer good grip. I am going to assume the car probably has 300+ treadwear tires now that are about shot. As tires near the end of their life, they lose a ton of grip, so whatever brand you have now, I wouldn't necessarily write them off, it might just be that they are totally worn out. Performance tires just don't last. After enough heat cycles they just get hard. I have a set of RT660's in my garage now that still have 4/32's on them, but are completely shot and basically only good for summertime open road driving.

One other thing, if you go wider, the responsiveness when turning drops off and the car will feel more "sloppy" when making turns. Especially on a 30 profile tire. Ideally you want the tire tread contact patch to be the exact same width as the rim, or even up to 4/10ths an inch narrower than the rim to keep the car really responsive and agile feeling.

One other thing. TireRack.com has a ton of great information when looking for tires.

I only got 6k miles from the supercars & would replace them with the same tire if I still had the ZL1...mine was not a daily driver & wanted a good sticky tire for spirited driving. They did not like cool weather for sure.

Several owners on C6 ended up with two sets of wheels & saved the supercars for the track while getting more life for the street...most went with the ps4s if I recall.

I worked at multiple tire shops and always voted for michilen pilots. And did a lot of warranty claims on Falkens. I'm sure they will be cheap either way!! [emoji6] Good luck.

I am going to bump this thread back up. I went back and read my previous posts and I was not clear on what I would like to do. I also typed some wrong information. I have been doing some research and looking at tires and I had a few questions for those that have answered (mainly about the acronyms used to describe the tires in the above posts).

So, I am looking for more of an all season tire. Something that I can put on the car that will be better for winter or cooler weather driving. I have the Goodyear Supercars on the vehicle now and they are a summer tire (I mistakenly said they are a winter tire in my post above). I plan on keeping these for the summer and the track, but want to put something on for everyday driving or cruising or taking Mama out on a date or for a drive.

Above, some have mentioned the Michelin PS4S. Is that the Pilot Sport 4S?I am not the brightest crayon, so if you could literally spell it out for me, that would be helpful. LOL! I see some tires that are Pilot Sport 4s, Pilot Sport 4S ZP, Pilot Sport Cup, and Pilot Sport All Season 4. I assume those are not the same tire and the PS4S is a summer tire as well. Obviously the All Season 4 is an all-season tire. So, what all season tire would those that have answered recommend? Or do you just recommend the summer tire. Thanks again for the help.

Oh yeah, does anyone think the Continental Extreme Contact DWS06 Plus is a good tire?
